Job summary

The Data Governance System Engineer at Illinois Tollway collaborates with business units to implement and sustain the Data Governance Program. This role ensures enterprise data is governed, trusted, compliant, and fit for analytics and AI initiatives through governance monitoring and documentation.

The position requires 2–4 years of experience, familiarity with Purview, Power BI, and governance frameworks, and a focus on data quality, privacy, and council coordination within a public-sector

Qualifications

• 2–4 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Quality, Business Analysis, or Information Management.
• Experience with governance tools such as Microsoft Purview, Power BI, Excel, Visio, and SharePoint.
• Knowledge of metadata management, data lineage, business glossaries, and data quality frameworks.
• Strong facilitation, documentation, analytical, and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience establishing or supporting a Data Governance Council.
• Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, or EDM Council frameworks.
• Familiarity with NIST, Microsoft Purview, M365 Copilot governance, data privacy, and AI governance.
• Public sector or transportation industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Partner with business areas to implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures.
• Monitor compliance with governance policies, data classification, metadata, and stewardship requirements.
• Facilitate Data Steward meetings, monitor stewardship activities, and resolve governance issues collaboratively.
• Develop and maintain governance documentation, glossaries, data dictionaries, standards, and operating procedures.
• Measure, monitor, and report data quality metrics; coordinate remediation of data quality issues.
• Produce governance dashboards, compliance reports, and executive metrics.
• Support audits and ensure compliance with enterprise data governance, privacy, and AI governance requirements.
• Promote data literacy and governance best practices across the organization.

The Data Governance System Engineer partners with business units to implement and sustain the Illinois Tollway's Data Governance Program. This role ensures enterprise data is governed, trusted, compliant, and fit for business, analytics, and AI initiatives through governance monitoring, documentation, data quality oversight, and collaboration with Data Stewards.

• Partner with business areas to implement data governance policies, standards, and procedures.

Education (Required):

• Associates degree or higher in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field from an accredited university or college.

Skills and Experience (Required):

• 2-4 years of experience in Data Governance, Data Quality, Business Analysis, or Information Management.
• Experience with Microsoft Purview, Power BI, Excel, Visio, SharePoint, or similar governance tools.
• Knowledge of metadata management, data lineage, business glossaries, and data quality frameworks.
