Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience in a related field.
  • Working knowledge of SQL for querying, validation, and analysis.
  • Experience with data governance, data quality, and metadata practices.
  • Familiarity with healthcare data structures and CMS/ HIPAA considerations.
  • Ability to communicate findings to both technical and business audiences.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate data inconsistencies, perform root cause analysis and document findings.
  • Define and monitor data quality rules, track metrics and report trends.
  • Maintain data glossary, metadata catalog, and data lineage documentation.
  • Track governance issues through lifecycle and report status to stakeholders.
  • Validate data across integration and transformation processes with governance checks.
  • Support HIPAA, CMS and Medicare Advantage data compliance by preparing audit evidence.

Together.The Data Governance Analyst is an essential operational contributor on the Data Governance team, responsible for executing and sustaining governance practices across data quality, metadata, standards, and lifecycle management. Working alongside governance operations leaders, business data stewards, and technology teams, this role provides the analytical depth and hands-on execution that keeps governance processes running reliably and data assets well-documented. The Analyst plays a pivotal role in identifying, investigating, and resolving data quality issues that affect the accuracy of Medicare Advantage operations — from member eligibility and claims processing to provider data and risk adjustment reporting.JOB DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES1. Data Issue Analysis & Root Cause ResolutionInvestigate data inconsistencies, anomalies, and quality failures across enterprise systems and data pipelines, performing thorough root cause analysis to identify the source and scope of issues. Document findings, recommend corrective actions, and collaborate with technical and business teams to drive timely resolution and prevent recurrence.2. Data Quality Lifecycle SupportSupport the definition, implementation, monitoring, and resolution of data quality rules and thresholds across key enterprise data domains. Track quality metrics over time, prepare summary reporting for governance stakeholders, and flag deteriorating trends that require escalation or intervention.3. Metadata & Documentation ManagementMaintain the accuracy, completeness, and currency of the enterprise data glossary, metadata catalog, and lineage documentation across governed data assets. Partner with data stewards and platform teams to ensure new and modified data assets are cataloged consistently and in accordance with governance standards.4. Governance Lifecycle Tracking & ReportingTrack governance issues, decisions, and action items through their full lifecycle — from intake through resolution and adoption — using governance workflow tools and tracking systems. Produce regular status reports and dashboards that keep governance leaders and business stakeholders informed of open items, resolution progress, and trend patterns.5. Data Integration & Validation SupportSupport the validation of data across integration, transformation, and enrichment processes by executing data checks, comparing source-to-target results, and identifying discrepancies that require governance review. Collaborate with data engineering teams to ensure governance validation standards are applied consistently within data pipelines.6. Compliance & Regulatory Data SupportAssist in ensuring that governed data assets meet HIPAA privacy requirements, CMS reporting standards, and Medicare Advantage-specific data obligations by supporting audit documentation, data access reviews, and compliance validation activities. Maintain awareness of regulatory data requirements and flag governance gaps that could introduce compliance risk.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESThis is an individual contributor role with no direct supervisory responsibilities.JOB REQUIREMENTSExperienceRequired:3–8 years of experience in data analysis, data governance, data quality management, or a related disciplineDemonstrated experience working with both business and technical stakeholders on data-related challengesWorking knowledge of data quality, metadata, and documentation practices in an enterprise environmentPreferred:Healthcare industry experience, particularly in a payer, managed care, or Medicare Advantage environmentExposure to data catalog, MDM, or data quality tools in a production settingFamiliarity with CMS data requirements, HIPAA, or healthcare claims data structuresEducationRequired:Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, Healthcare Informatics, Business, or a related field; equivalent professional experience will be consideredPreferred:Advanced coursework or certification in data management, data analytics, or health informaticsTrainingRequired:Working knowledge of SQL for data querying, validation, and analysisFamiliarity with HIPAA data handling requirements and basic data privacy principlesPreferred:Exposure to enterprise data catalog platforms (e.g., Microsoft Purview, Alation) or data quality tools (e.g., Acceldata, Informatica DQ)Introductory training in DAMA-DMBOK data management principles or equivalent governance frameworkSKILLS & COMPETENCIESTechnical / Role-Specific SkillsSQL & Data Querying: Proficiency in SQL for data extraction, validation, comparison, and ad hoc analysis across relational databases and data warehousesData Quality Analysis & Validation: Ability to define, execute, and interpret data quality checks; experience identifying data anomalies, assessing impact, and documenting findings for governance reviewMetadata & Documentation Management: Skill in maintaining data glossary entries, cataloging data assets, and documenting lineage in a consistent and accessible formatData Catalog & Governance Tool Exposure: Familiarity with or willingness to develop proficiency in enterprise data catalog or MDM tools; exposure to Purview, Alation, Reltio, or equivalent platforms is a plusHealthcare Data Literacy: General understanding of healthcare data structures including claims, member, provider, and encounter data relevant to Medicare Advantage operations; knowledge of ICD-10/CPT coding is beneficialAnalytical Reporting & Communication: Ability to synthesize data findings into clear governance status reports, quality dashboards, and issue summaries for both technical and business audiences; proficiency with Excel or BI tools (Power BI, Tableau)LicensureRequired: NonePreferred: Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) – Associate levelEssential Physical Functions:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
