Job summary

Waymo is seeking a seasoned Data Engineering leader to guide the Commercialization Data Lake and supporting pipelines. You will shape the technical direction and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver scalable data solutions.

The role requires 7+ years in data engineering and exceptional leadership in large-scale systems, with expertise in SQL and at least one language such as Python/Java/C++. This position follows a hybrid work schedule and offers strong growth opportunities.

Qualifications

• BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or a related field.
• 7+ years of experience in data engineering or related role, with large-scale data systems.
• Proven experience (2+ years) in leading engineering teams, including hiring and coaching.
• Strong knowledge of data warehousing, data modeling, and ETL/ELT processes.
• Expertise in SQL and Python/Java/C++.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of data engineers for the Waymo Commercialization Data Lake and pipelines.
• Define and drive the technical vision, strategy, and roadmap for the Data Engineering team.
• Oversee design, development, and operation of scalable data pipelines, stores, and models for commercialization data.
• Establish best practices for data quality, governance, security, and performance.
• Collaborate with Product Data Scientists, Engineering, and Operations to deliver robust data solutions.
• Foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous improvement.
