Job summary

Charles Schwab Corporation seeks an experienced data technology leader to drive the re-architecture of our core enterprise data platform. You will lead a seasoned engineering team, delivering high quality, scalable data solutions and partnering with business units to transform how the world invests.

Location is Austin/Southlake, TX with on-site work. The role requires hands-on leadership, strong SQL/Python, and cloud data tooling, with a proven track record delivering data warehouses and DX/ODX

Qualifications

  • Expertise in ETL development, Data Architecture, Data Modeling, Data Quality, and Best Practices.
  • SQL and Google Cloud products including BigQuery, Cloud Storage, Dataflow, Composer, Pub/Sub, SSIS.
  • Expertise in Informatica IDMC/IICS and Python coding skills.
  • Experience applying AI in the development lifecycle to gain efficiency.
  • Business analysis experience translating business requirements to data mapping.
  • Minimum 5 years in financial services; 10-12 years data engineering; 3 years strategic leadership.
  • Strong knowledge of data warehouse concepts (star schema, SCDs) and Data Exchanges/Stores.
  • Ability to work with vendor resources in onshore-offshore model; implement data security controls.

We are in the midst of re-architecting and rebuilding our core enterprise data platform to support our rapidly growing and evolving business. The technical engineering leader will be a hands-on lead engineer with technical/business acumen and leadership experience that excels in a structured, dynamic, fast-moving environment and is passionate about developing high quality, high performance, and scalable solutions. The candidate will lead and work aside a team of seasoned engineers whose main objective is to maintain all aspects of the system health and ensure the on-time, quality delivery of software releases. This position could be located in Austin, TX.

This position will be part of the Operational Data Exchange (ODX) Technology team within the Schwab Data organization focusing on providing Operational Intelligence and Insights, and position Schwab to remain a Data Driven organization using a world class Data Exchange (DX) platform. The DX support various critical business functions and business units – Schwab Technology Services (STS), Audit, Corporate Tax, Risk, Compliance, etc. This is a role for someone who is passionate and excited to learn/understand the corporate systems, build a solid team, focus on basics and streamline existing system to make it stable, and build a future state data platform that is going to be pivotal to drive client-centricity, reducing time to market, scale & increasing efficiency. In this role you will:

  • Provide strategic, technical and project leadership to data pipeline development.
  • Understand the needs of the business and using this knowledge to align on a solution and drive delivery
  • Drive Agile development supporting organization priorities and innovation.
  • Hands-on development and mentoring for all members of the team to ensure team and project success.
  • Drive outcomes and team performance, collaborate with all to achieve results, and think strategically.
  • Work closely with development, product owner and team members to decompose stories, design features, and prioritize tasks.
  • Effectively navigate cross-functional communication to ensure alignment between teams and within one team.
  • Cultivate a culture of open feedback that promotes accountability for getting better together.
  • Collaborate with other shared functions to support application support and automation for deployments.
  • Interface with product owner and key stakeholders in Project Management, Business, Development, QA and Technology Operations to ensure high quality delivery of software projects on time and on budget.
  • Identify technology risks and dependencies early to establish mitigation plans.
  • Create and maintain artifacts for production support and deployment processes and ensure smooth hand off to support teams.
  • Meet periodically with onshore and offshore developers and application support to review and improve processes.
What you have

Required

  • Expertise in ETL development, Data Architecture, Data Modeling, Data Quality, Best Practices, Exception Handling

  • Expertise in Informatica (IDMC/IICS) and Python coding skills
  • Used AI in development lifecycle to gain efficiency
  • Business Analysis experience to perform data analysis and guide analysts to translate business requirements to data mapping
  • Exceptional track record in delivering results and business outcomes
  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology or similar/equivalent area of study
  • Minimum of 5 years working in the financial services industry.
  • Minimum of 10-12 years of solid data engineering experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years strategic project leadership and delivery experience in matrixed organization
  • Strong understanding of Data Warehouse concepts (star schema, slowly changing dimensions, fact/dimension modeling) and Operational Data Exchanges/Stores.
  • Solid understanding of data lifecycle, metadata management, and governance standards.
  • Good understanding of latest Architecture and Development Standards and Guidelines
  • Willingness to learn new skills and keep up with technology changes in future to meet business needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to disagree, debate your case with data, and commit to deliver regardless of the outcome.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required for composing and delivering technical presentations or other forms of documentation to various levels of technical and non-technical management.
  • Prior experience working with vendor resources in an onshore-offshore model and driving delivery and collaboration for maximum output.
  • Implement data security controls and access management policies to protect sensitive information.

In addition to the salary range, this role is also eligible for bonus or incentive opportunities.
