Job description

Location: Alexandria, VA

Accrete is an agentic managed services company: an AI workforce that does high-stakes, judgement-heavy work for government and enterprise clients — at the economics of software, not labor.

At the core is Accrete’s Knowledge Engine, a dynamic context graph that captures an organization’s tacit knowledge, resolves data across silos, and builds a living, auditable ground truth. Expert agents reason against that ground truth to act on complex, high-stakes decisions — not just answer questions about them.

From national security to commercial operations, Accrete delivers the work on one platform, with unlimited expert agents and expert judgement.

The Role

As a Data Engineer, you will work across data engineering, data management, system administration, and technical mission support. You will help ensure that data is properly ingested, organized, transformed, validated, and made accessible to the users and applications that depend on it.

You will work closely with data scientists, software engineers, AI/ML teams, system administrators, and government customers to maintain reliable data workflows and resolve data-related issues.

This is a hands‑on role for someone who understands both how data moves through technical systems and how users need to access and manage that data.

What You'll Do
Data Engineering & Integration
  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot data ingestion and transformation pipelines
  • Integrate structured and unstructured data from multiple sources and systems
  • Develop ETL/ELT workflows to move and transform data
  • Develop SQL queries and scripts to extract, transform, validate, and analyze data
  • Support data ingestion through APIs, databases, files, feeds, and other sources
  • Develop repeatable processes for data onboarding and integration
  • Monitor data pipelines and investigate failures, delays, and inconsistencies
  • Work with engineering teams to improve the reliability and scalability of data workflows
Data Management Administration
  • Support the administration and day‑to‑day operation of data management platforms and tools
  • Configure data management workflows, schemas, metadata, permissions, and other platform settings
  • Manage data repositories, datasets, tables, and associated documentation
  • Support user account and access management in accordance with security requirements
  • Maintain data catalogs, metadata, taxonomies, and other information structures
  • Assist with data lifecycle management, retention, archiving, and disposition processes
  • Document data sources, workflows, dependencies, and system configurations
  • Provide technical support to users working with data management tools
  • Troubleshoot platform and data management issues and coordinate escalation when necessary
Data Quality & Governance
  • Develop and implement data quality checks and validation processes
  • Monitor datasets for completeness, accuracy, consistency, and timeliness
  • Identify duplicate, missing, malformed, or inconsistent data
  • Investigate the root causes of data quality issues
  • Develop automated processes to detect and remediate common data issues
  • Support data governance standards and best practices
  • Maintain data lineage and documentation for critical datasets
  • Help ensure data is appropriately classified, handled, and secured
Technical Support & Automation
  • Provide technical support for data systems and workflows
  • Troubleshoot data access, ingestion, transformation, and processing issues
  • Develop scripts and automation to reduce manual data management tasks
  • Support deployment and configuration of data tools in secure environments
  • Work with DevOps and infrastructure teams to maintain data services
  • Support monitoring, logging, and alerting for data pipelines and systems
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency and reduce manual operational work
Mission & Customer Support
  • Work directly with government customers and mission users to understand data requirements
  • Support data onboarding and integration for new mission datasets
  • Help users troubleshoot data access and management issues
  • Translate operational requirements into practical data engineering solutions
  • Support demonstrations, testing, and deployment of data capabilities
  • Provide technical guidance and training to users where appropriate
  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to ensure data is suitable for analytical and AI applications
What We're Looking For
  • Active TS/SCI clearance with Counterintelligence or Lifestyle Polygraph
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering, data management, database administration, systems administration, or a related technical field
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent professional experience
  • Strong SQL skills and experience working with relational databases
  • Experience building or supporting ETL/ELT pipelines and data integration workflows
  • Experience with Python or another scripting language for data processing and automation
  • Experience working with structured and unstructured datasets
  • Understanding of data quality, data governance, metadata, and data lifecycle management
  • Experience troubleshooting technical and data‑related issues
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with complex datasets
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with technical and mission teams
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, or other federal mission
  • Experience administering enterprise data management platforms
  • Experience with data catalogs, metadata management, data lineage, or data governance tools
  • Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, or similar databases
  • Experience with AWS, Azure, or other cloud environments
  • Experience with Spark, Databricks, Snowflake, or other large‑scale data platforms
  • Experience with Airflow, Kafka, or other data pipeline and orchestration technologies
  • Experience with REST APIs and automated data ingestion
  • Experience with Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience working in classified, secure, or air‑gapped environments
  • Experience supporting AI/ML, NLP, LLM, or knowledge management applications
  • Experience with data visualization or analytics tools such as Tableau or Power BI
  • Familiarity with federal data management, security, and compliance requirements
  • Ability to obtain and maintain additional security clearance accesses to Special Access Programs (SAP) or Access Compensatory Control Measures (ACCM)
What Success Looks Like

Success in this role means mission data is reliable, accessible, properly managed, and available when and where it is needed.

You will help ensure that data pipelines run reliably, new datasets can be onboarded efficiently, data quality issues are identified and resolved quickly, and users can access the information they need without unnecessary friction.

The strongest candidates will combine hands‑on data engineering skills with the operational discipline required to support data systems in demanding government environments.
