Job summary

DataSF in San Francisco is seeking a hands-on Data Engineer to build and maintain production pipelines, develop dbt transformations on Snowflake, and support the transition from legacy publishing workflows to modern platform-based feeds in a hybrid role.

This 36‑month project is not eligible for permanent civil service hiring and is classified as Permanent Exempt (PEX). The role focuses on data quality, onboarding, and data products for budgeting and planning.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in CS/CE/IS or equivalent with 60 credits; 20+ credits in relevant field.
• One year of experience analyzing, installing, configuring, enhancing, and/or maintaining system components.
• 1010 Information Systems Trainee Program may substitute for the degree.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain production data pipelines with tests and documentation.
• Develop and test dbt data models transforming raw inputs into clean, well-documented tables.
• Create financial and budget data products to support migration from legacy reporting.
• Support platform cost and usage reporting for departments.
• Assist in transitioning publishing workflows to the platform and public data feeds.
• Investigate data quality issues by tracing errors to source, fix them, and add tests.
• Assist department onboarding and help analysts use the models.
• Participate in code reviews and expand to reviewing others’ code.
