Job summary

VRChat is seeking a data/ML engineer to join our Social Experience team. You will build and refine data-driven personalization systems using AWS, Python, Node.js, and Snowflake, processing large data volumes to craft meaningful user experiences across our platform.

Work with a full-stack team to design scalable data pipelines, analytics models, and production-grade services that power recommendations, content discovery, groups, and events.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of software engineering with a focus on data engineering.
• Proven experience building production-grade data pipelines (ETL/ELT).
• Strong SQL skills and optimization for analytical and real-time queries.
• Experience with Spark, Hadoop/Beam, or Kafka.
• Experience with cloud providers at scale (AWS or Google Cloud).
• Proficiency in Python and JavaScript/Node.js; Mongo and Redis experience.
• Familiarity with Elasticsearch, data warehousing, and ML systems.
• Agile, collaborative mindset and strong communication in a remote team.

Responsibilities

• Develop, maintain, and optimize scalable data pipelines, backend services, and APIs for data-driven features.
• Design data models and schemas supporting analytics and real-time recommendations.
• Collaborate with data scientists and product managers to ensure data quality.
• Implement data processing jobs using big data tech to handle large datasets.
• Advance from heuristics to data-backed personalization for content and experiences.
• Contribute to backend systems including REST and websocket APIs, caching, queues, and orchestration.
• Be available to address outages as needed.
