In Travelers' data team, the Data Engineer I designs and deploys data pipelines and solutions to support AI, ML, and enterprise analytics, coordinating with multiple teams to ensure data accessibility and actionable insights.
Responsibilities
- Develop and operationalize intricate data solutions, identify issues, apply transformations, and recommend cleansing and quality strategies.
- Design scalable data architectures and solutions.
- Evaluate data sources to assess value and advise which data should feed analytical workflows.
- Incorporate core data management practices including governance, security, and quality controls.
- Collaborate with teams to support delivery and educate users on data products and the analytics environment.
- Analyze data and systems to detect and resolve defects or incidents of moderate complexity, and implement corrective actions.
- Test data movement, transformation logic, and data components to validate reliability.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field or equivalent.
- Minimum six years of related experience.
- Experience leveraging AI platforms such as OpenAI and AWS Bedrock to drive innovative projects.
- Strong technical skills in Python, SQL, AWS, Databricks, and related technologies to develop robust AI applications.
- Terraform experience to streamline infrastructure management and deployment.
- API design capabilities to enable seamless integrations and features.
- Proficiency with cloud platforms, programming languages, and software engineering practices.
- Ability to work at a steady, predictable pace to meet commitments, decompose work into small releases, and contribute to tradeoffs and negotiations.
- Demonstrated domain expertise and the ability to understand technical concepts within current systems.
- Strong problem-solving and debugging abilities to identify root causes in unfamiliar code or systems and address repetitive issues.
- Excellent verbal and written communication to engage team members and business partners.
- Intermediate leadership skills with a track record of self-motivation and professional growth.
- Two additional years of software or data engineering experience.

Salary Range
Salary: USD 109,300 - 180,200 per year
