Job summary

Google Maps Data Engineer role focuses on building and operating full-cycle data pipelines and geospatial data models to support Maps, Earth, Street View, and related services. You will help manage cloud infrastructure and geospatial platforms deployed within it to deliver accurate maps for billions of users.

The Geo team enables developers to leverage Google Maps platforms, solving complex data challenges, and delivering scalable, insightful data analytics and visualization capabilities.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 1 year of experience coding in one or more programming languages.
• 1 year of experience designing data pipelines and dimensional data modeling for sync/async system integration using internal/external stacks.
• Experience with data models via exploratory queries and scripts.
• Experience in GIS, Esri ArcGIS or FME for spatial data integration and analysis.

Responsibilities

• Implement business infrastructure to build and scale data frameworks for 3PDO Data Engineers and Operations team members.
• Partner with data providers/consumers to establish new data pipelines.
• Develop and maintain data models, pipelines, and exchange formats for geospatial data with guidance.
• Provide ongoing support for client users via reports, queries, dashboards.
• Collaborate to analyze root-causes of process errors and improve partner care via automation.

Data Engineer, Google Maps

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
• 1 year of experience coding in one or more programming languages.
• 1 year of experience designing data pipelines, and dimensional data modeling for sync and async system integration and implementation using internal (e.g., Flume, etc.) and external stacks (DataFlow, Spark, etc.).
• Experience working with data models by performing exploratory queries and scripts.
• Experience in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), including Esri software (ArcGIS) or FME for spatial data integration and analysis.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Geospatial Sciences, or a related field.
• Experience partnering with stakeholders (e.g., users, partners, customers), and managing stakeholders/customers.
• Experience developing project plans and delivering projects on time within budget and scope.
• Experience with statistical methodology and data consumption tools such as business intelligence tools, collabs, Jupyter notebooks, Tableau, Power BI, DataStudio, and business intelligence platforms.

About the Job

As The Data Engineer, Geo Operations, you will execute full-cycle processing pipelines of complex data, within the scope of a larger project with guidance from manager, team lead, or colleagues, within bounded time. You will have an additional focus on managing the team's Cloud infrastructure and the industry-standard geospatial platforms deployed within it.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $106,000 - $150,000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

• Implement business infrastructure and solutions to build and scale common frameworks for use by Third-Party Developer Operations (3PDO) Data Engineers and Operations team members.
• Partner with data providers and consumers to establish new data pipelines.
• Develop and maintain data models, pipelines, and exchange formats to assist in the delivery, visualization, and analysis of geospatial data, with guidance.
• Provide ongoing support for client users through maintenance of reports, queries, and dashboards.
• Partner cross-functionally to analyze root-causes of process errors and deliver faster and better partner care experiences through automation and self-service.
• Perform data analysis and profiling utilizing either established or custom tooling/infrastructure as needed.
