Job summary

Verasight is seeking a Data Engineer to build the tooling and data infrastructure behind our survey research. You will work directly with our data science team to expand access to high-quality survey data and ship end-to-end solutions.

Your work will focus on internal tools and pipelines (R/Python), collaborating with data scientists, and applying responsible AI practices to improve reliability and auditability of our systems.

Qualifications

• 2+ years writing code that others depend on in Python or R.
• Comfort with SQL and relational databases.
• Fluent with Git, GitHub, and code review.
• Experience with cloud services (AWS, Supabase, Railway, Vercel) and ability to learn new platforms.
• Security-minded; keep secrets out of code and handle sensitive data carefully.
• Hands-on experience using AI tools to write or review code.
• Excellent written communication; READMEs and short design notes.
• Willingness to operate independently and innovate.
• Commitment to an inclusive environment.
• Preferred: survey data, Qualtrics, R package development, CI/CD (GitHub Actions), containers or infra-as-code, data pipelines, survey methodology.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain internal tools, packages, and pipelines (largely R and Python).
• Work alongside data scientists on live projects to fit workflows.
• Respond quickly when a data scientist hits a wall and be the first call.
• Scope problems to scripts, packages, scheduled jobs, services, or nothing at all.
• Use AI coding and analysis tools as part of your workflow, and verify outputs.
• Partner with Verasight leadership on where data infrastructure should go.
