Job summary

The City of New York's Department of Sanitation (DSNY) seeks a Data Engineer to design, develop, and maintain enterprise data systems that support operations, analytics, and reporting across DSNY's Operations Management Division.

You will build data models, pipelines, and SQL/Python solutions while collaborating with stakeholders and leveraging Databricks, Power BI, OBIEE, and Tableau to deliver actionable insights for City agencies.

Qualifications

• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python.
• Experience with data modeling, data analysis, ETL development, and database design.
• Experience with enterprise reporting and analytics platforms such as Power BI, OBIEE, Tableau, or similar tools.
• Knowledge of modern data platforms and cloud-based analytics environments; Databricks is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

• Perform data analysis, data profiling, data modeling, source-to-target mapping, and reporting activities for enterprise data and analytics projects.
• Develop and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models to support operational, analytical, and reporting needs.
• Analyze legacy and strategic source systems to improve data quality and governance.
• Design, develop, and support complex data integration pipelines using ETL tools.
• Develop and maintain SQL-based data solutions and data transformation processes.
• Support BI and reporting initiatives using OBIEE, Power BI, Tableau, and related tools.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to improve data sharing and interoperability across DSNY and City agencies.
