Job summary

Deloitte’s AI & Engineering team is seeking a Data Engineer III to design, build, and deploy scalable data solutions on cloud platforms. You will apply SQL, Python, and dbt to create robust data pipelines and dashboards, while implementing governance, security, and cost-aware architectures.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain the required clearance.
  • 7+ years of experience designing and coding databases for big data and administering cloud-based relational and analytical database platforms.
  • Experience designing databases for performance, scalability, security, and system integration; building data pipeline orchestration with Airflow or Dagster; and SQL, Python, and dbt transformation logic.
  • Experience using infrastructure-as-code, configuration-management, and containerization tools (Terraform, Ansible, Docker); building CI/CD workflows; and backup, recovery planning for production databases.
  • Ability to travel 10–15%, based on client work.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document relational/analytical database solutions addressing performance and scalability.
  • Administer cloud-based database platforms with RBAC, schema management, performance tuning, capacity planning, and DR practices.
  • Extract, parse, validate, and transform data using SQL, Python, dbt; build data pipelines with Airflow/Dagster; maintain data dictionaries and lineage.
  • Implement governed data sources and calculation logic for dashboards (Tableau) and testing of filters/parameters.
  • Develop infrastructure-as-code, config-management, containerization, and CI/CD using Terraform, Ansible, Docker.
  • Perform platform design evaluations, develop program plans, design access models for auditability, communicate tradeoffs, and train client personnel.

Work you'll do

As a Data Engineer III on the AI & Engineering team, you will be responsible for…

  • Design, code, test, debug, and document relational and analytical database solutions that address performance, scalability, security, and system-integration requirements
  • Administer cloud-based database platforms using role-based access controls, schema management, performance tuning, capacity planning, and backup, recovery, and disaster-recovery practices
  • Extract, parse, validate, and transform structured and unstructured data using parameterized SQL, Python, and dbt; build and maintain data pipeline orchestration workflows with tools such as Airflow and Dagster; and maintain data dictionaries, metadata, and data lineage
  • Implement governed data sources and calculation logic for dashboard and reporting tools, including Tableau, and test filters, parameters, and user interactions
  • Develop infrastructure-as-code, configuration-management, containerized deployment, and version-controlled continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices using tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and Docker
  • Perform platform design evaluations and develop program plans and implementation approaches; design access models that support auditability and separation of duties; communicate cost, performance, scalability, and reliability tradeoffs; and train client personnel on data platforms and workflows

  • Experience using infrastructure-as-code, configuration-management, and containerization tools, including Terraform, Ansible, and Docker; building version‑controlled continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) workflows; and supporting backup, recovery, and disaster‑recovery planning for production database environments
  • Ability to travel 10–15%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future

Preferred:

  • Experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS) GovCloud database and analytics services, including Amazon Aurora, Snowflake, and Amazon SageMaker
  • Experience implementing governed data sources and calculation logic for Tableau or business intelligence and data visualization platforms
  • Experience supporting database platforms in a federal environment governed by the Federal Information Security Modernization Act (FISMA), National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) requirements, or Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMP) requirements

The wage range for this role takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. At Deloitte, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. A reasonable estimate of the current range is $107,700 to $179,500.

You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive program, subject to the rules governing the program, whereby an award, if any, depends on various factors, including, without limitation, individual and organizational performance.
