Job summary

Regions is seeking a Data Engineer to evaluate, design, and deliver data assets that support data use cases and data product delivery. This onsite role focuses on building, maintaining, and moving data across Regions' environment to empower analytics and reporting.

You will work with partners across Data, Data Scientists, and IT to construct scalable data stores, implement data frameworks, and ensure data quality and governance in a regulated environment.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. with two (2) years of experience in a quantitative/analytical/STEM field, or
• Master’s degree with four (4) years of experience in a quantitative/analytical/STEM field or technical related field, or
• Bachelor’s degree with six (6) years of experience in a quantitative/analytical/STEM field or technical related field
• Three (3) years of working programming experience in Python/PySpark, Scala, SQL
• Three (3) years of working experience in Big Data Technology in Hadoop, Hive, Impala, Spark, or Kafka

Responsibilities

• Partner with Regions Technology teams to design, build, and maintain data structures for Data and Analytics and Data Product use cases
• Build data pipelines that collect, arrange, and store data in Regions’ big data environment
• Develop robust programs to move, transform, and load data using big data tools like Spark
• Coordinate design with Data Products Partners, Data Scientists, and other teams
• Ensure data is prepared and arranged for defined business use cases
• Design and deploy frameworks to serve data assets to consumers
• Collaborate with stakeholders to translate needs into Data Design requirements
• Provide consultation across teams using data to drive decisions
• Support team members in delivering information and aiding automation of data products
• Act as adviser to business leads by identifying data opportunities and data strategy
• Ensure compliance with risk, cybersecurity, and change management processes

Job description

Regions is hiring a Data Engineer to evaluate, design, and deliver operational and analytical data assets that support data and analytics use cases and data product delivery. In this onsite role, you will build and maintain the structures, processes, and logic needed to move, transform, and load data reliably for downstream consumers across the organization.

What you’ll do

• Partner with Regions Technology teams to design, build, and maintain data-based structures and systems for Data and Analytics and Data Product use cases
• Build data pipelines that collect, arrange, and store data within Regions’ big data environment
• Develop robust, testable programs to move, transform, and load data using big data tools such as Spark
• Coordinate design and development with Data Products Partners, Data Scientists, Data Management, Data Modelers, and other technical partners to construct strategic and tactical data stores
• Ensure data is prepared and arranged for each defined business use case
• Design and deploy frameworks and microservices to serve data assets to data consumers
• Collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders to translate customer needs into Data Design requirements, supporting data quality and integrity alongside data visualizations and data stories
• Provide consultation across teams using data to make decisions
• Support team members in delivering information and aiding automation of data products
• Act as a trusted adviser to business leads by identifying business needs and data opportunities, understanding performance drivers, interpreting business-case data drivers, and contributing to the data and analytics strategy
• Ensure compliance with risk management programs, rules and regulations, and cybersecurity practices, including disciplined change management and process improvement support

Requirements

• Ph.D. with two (2) years of experience in a quantitative/analytical/STEM field, or
• Master’s degree with four (4) years of experience in a quantitative/analytical/STEM field or technical related field, or
• Bachelor’s degree with six (6) years of experience in a quantitative/analytical/STEM field or technical related field
• Three (3) years of working programming experience in Python/PySpark, Scala, SQL
• Three (3) years of working experience in Big Data Technology in Hadoop, Hive, Impala, Spark, or Kafka

• Ability to interpret and ensure compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and industry guidance
• Experience building data solutions at scale

• Experience with No-SQL databases
• Experience with large-scale data Lakehouses at enterprise scale
• Proven record delivering operational Data solutions including Report and Model Ready Data Assets
• Significant experience working with senior executives using data, reporting, and visualizations to support strategic and operational decision-making
• Strong ability to transform and integrate complex data from multiple sources into accessible data assets and frameworks
• Strong background synthesizing data and analytics in a large, complex, highly regulated environment
• Strong technical background including database and business intelligence skills
• Strong communication skills through written and oral presentations

Education and background preferences

• Background in Big Data Engineering and Advanced Data Analytics
• Experience developing solutions for the financial services industry
• Experience in Agile Software Development
• Experience or exposure to cloud technologies and migrations
• Prior banking or financial services experience

Compensation and employment details

• Salary range: $115,002 - $146,401 per year
• Incentive pay plans: opportunity to participate in the Long Term Incentive Plan
• Exempt from timekeeping requirements under the Fair Labor Standards Act; not eligible for overtime pay
• Full-time position intended to be onsite; regular work hours with full days in the office three or more days a week
• Regions will not provide relocation assistance; relocation would be at your expense
• Locations available: Birmingham, AL, Atlanta, GA, or Charlotte, NC
• Regions will not sponsor applicants for work visas for this position at this time; applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
