Job summary

Smarty is seeking a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain data pipelines and a data lakehouse powering analytics and reporting. You will collaborate with data analysts and business stakeholders to ensure clean, reliable data available for insight and decision making.

The role focuses on dbt modeling, Python automation, and AWS services, with responsibilities spanning ingestion, orchestration, and data quality. Onsite in Orem, UT.

Qualifications

• 3+ years in a Data Engineering role.
• Strong dbt modeling, incremental ways, testing, and documentation.
• Proficiency in Python for data pipelines.
• Hands-on AWS data services knowledge (S3, Athena, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, EventBridge, ECS/ECR, CloudFormation, CloudWatch, IAM/Secrets Manager).
• Experience managing Airbyte deployments and connections.
• Solid SQL skills and data modeling concepts.
• Familiarity with MySQL or similar sources.
• Version control and code review workflows.
• Strong problem-solving and pipeline monitoring abilities.
• Nice to have SaaS APIs, Power BI/Tableau/Looker, reverse ETL, Iceberg, AWS certs.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and ELT workflows.
• Develop and maintain dbt models, tests, and docs.
• Manage AWS data lakehouse with S3, Glue, Athena, and related services.
• Orchestrate workflows with AWS Step Functions and EventBridge.
• Deploy and manage Lambda functions for near-real-time pipelines and reverse ETL.
• Manage IaC with CloudFormation for Lambdas, Step Functions, and Glue.
• Maintain Airbyte ingestion across HubSpot, MySQL, GA, and others.
• Write bespoke Python pipelines for specialized sources.
• Monitor pipeline health with CloudWatch and ensure data quality via dbt tests.
• Collaborate with analysts to support Power BI reporting and semantic modeling.
• Document data architecture, pipelines, and runbooks.
