Job summary

Ascot Group is seeking a Data Engineer to support data warehousing projects, ETL/ELT pipelines, and analytics assets. You will design, develop, test, and maintain data pipelines and may build Power BI reports to deliver timely insights for underwriting, operations, and finance.

The role emphasizes SQL, Power BI, data modeling, and cloud data services; 3+ years of experience and a Bachelor’s in a related field preferred. This is a hybrid role based in New Jersey.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years in data analytics, BI, reporting, or data engineering.
  • Strong SQL development and data analysis skills.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar BI tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with data warehouse concepts, ETL/ELT processes, and dimensional modeling.
  • Experience with enterprise data platforms, cloud data services, or modern analytics environments.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or related field (or equivalent).
  • Insurance industry experience is highly preferred (policy, claims, underwriting, finance, or regulatory reporting).

Responsibilities

  • Partner with stakeholders to translate data, reporting, and analytics requirements into solutions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and data integrations for enterprise reporting and analytics.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, datasets, and data models for reporting and decision-making.
  • Build and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models for insights.
  • Validate and monitor data for accuracy and consistency across sources.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and SMEs to understand processes and data structures.
  • Support testing, deployment, and maintenance of data and reporting solutions; resolve issues and enhancements.
  • Participate in project planning, requirements gathering, estimation, and design for data initiatives.
  • Document data transformations, reporting logic, and technical processes to established standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality and automate manual processes.

Position Overview

The Data Engineer is critical to the ongoing development and support of Data Warehousing projects for Ascot US. This position will be responsible for the analysis, development, implementation, testing, and ongoing support of Ascot’s data and analytics assets. The ideal candidate has a foundational understanding of data warehouse design including strong SQL/ETL skills, strong attention to detail, and a desire to continue developing technical and analytical skills in an enterprise data environment. The Data Engineer will interface regularly with business partners across Underwriting, Operations, Finance, Actuarial, and Finance. This role will be in the office with a hybrid work schedule.

Responsibilities
  • Partner with business stakeholders to understand data, reporting, and analytics requirements and translate them into actionable solutions.
  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, and data integrations supporting enterprise reporting and analytics.
  • Develop and optimize SQL queries, datasets, and data models to support reporting, analysis, and operational decision-making.
  • Some may build and maintain Power BI reports, dashboards, and semantic models that provide timely and meaningful business insights.
  • Validate, reconcile, and monitor data to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency across source systems and reporting outputs.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, business analysts, and subject matter experts to understand business processes, data structures, and reporting needs.
  • Support the testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance of data and reporting solutions, including issue resolution and enhancements.
  • Participate in project planning, requirements gathering, estimation, and solution design activities for data-centric initiatives.
  • Document business requirements, data transformations, reporting logic, and technical processes in accordance with established standards.
  • Identify opportunities to improve data quality, automate manual processes, and enhance reporting capabilities across the organization.

Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in data analytics, business intelligence, reporting, or data engineering-related roles.
  • Strong SQL development and data analysis skills.
  • Experience with Power BI or similar business intelligence tools preferred.
  • Familiarity with data warehouse concepts, ETL/ELT processes, and dimensional modeling.
  • Experience working with enterprise data platforms, cloud data services, or modern analytics environments.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and stakeholder communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in information systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Experience working within the insurance industry is highly preferred, including familiarity with insurance operations, policy, claims, underwriting, finance, or regulatory reporting data domains.

Compensation

Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to experience, subject matter expertise, and skills. The base pay is just one component of Ascot’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include annual cash bonus and other forms of discretionary compensation awarded by the Company.

The annualized base pay range for this role is: $110,000 - $125,000
