Job summary

Maas Energy Works, Inc. seeks a Data Engineer to own the operational backbone of the data platform, including SQL Server on Azure and the Fabric data warehouse that feeds reporting and internal apps.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of professional experience with SQL Server and T-SQL, including set-based query design, stored procedures, execution-plan tuning, and indexing.
  • Hands-on database administration in production: backup and recovery, SQL Agent, maintenance jobs, logins and role-based security, and capacity monitoring.
  • Experience building and operating production ETL/ELT pipelines (Azure Data Factory, Synapse pipelines, Fabric Data Factory, or SSIS), including incremental loads, failure handling, and reruns.
  • Working knowledge of dimensional modeling: facts, dimensions, grain, and slowly changing dimensions.
  • Hands-on Microsoft Fabric experience: Warehouse and Lakehouse, Data Factory pipelines, Dataflow Gen2, notebooks, and capacity monitoring.
  • Familiarity with Azure fundamentals: resource organization, networking basics, managed identities, and Key Vault.
  • Experience implementing data quality checks, monitoring, or alerting production data.
  • Proficiency with Git.
  • A track record of learning new tools and platforms independently and applying them to real work.
  • Python, and C# programming languages
  • Spark framework

Responsibilities

  • Administer the SQL Server environment in Azure: backups and restore testing, SQL Agent jobs, index and statistics maintenance, security and access, storage growth, and performance tuning.
  • Monitor continuous data ingestion from 100+ projects and resolve gaps, delays, duplicates, and out-of-range values before they reach downstream reporting.
  • Build, maintain, and troubleshoot pipelines that move data from staging and external REST APIs into the Fabric data warehouse.
  • Maintain and extend the warehouse's dimensional models, data quality rules, and load performance.
  • Build alerting for pipeline failures, data freshness, and completeness, and own the response when they fire.
  • Contribute to the migration of remaining workloads from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric.
  • Support analysts and application developers who consume warehouse data through Power BI semantic models and internal applications.
  • Write and maintain runbooks and technical documentation, and work in Git with code review and CI/CD deployment.

Maas Energy Works is the leading developer and operator of agricultural waste-to-energy systems in the United States. The Company designs, develops, constructs, and operates biogas renewable energy generation systems, primarily on dairy farms. Our projects include anaerobic digesters, biogas-powered electric generation, and renewable natural gas upgrading.

Position Description

We are hiring a Data Engineer to own the operational backbone of our data platform: SQL Servers, the pipelines that move data out of it, and the Microsoft Fabric data warehouse that feeds reporting, regulatory work, and internal applications. The data is high-frequency time-series and operational data from more than 100 projects, so reliability, completeness, and monitoring matter as much as building new things.

This is a hands-on role on a small team that is actively modernizing its platform. We want someone who learns new tools on their own initiative, takes ownership of production systems, and wants to grow with the platform.

Essential Responsibilities
Required Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Power BI semantic models
  • Experience with high-volume time-series, IoT, or industrial operations data.
  • Microsoft certification DP-600 (Fabric Analytics Engineer) or DP-700 (Fabric Data Engineer).
