Position(s) I am Applying for
The Data Engineer will join the Enterprise Data & Analytics team to design, build, and maintain reliable data pipelines and integrations that support reporting, analytics, and business operations. Alongside hands-on engineering, this role will help strengthen the firm’s data management and governance practices through improved data quality, clear documentation, and consistent standards.
Working with colleagues across IT and business teams, you’ll translate business requirements into practical technical solutions and help ensure data is accurate, accessible, and well-managed. You’ll support the existing data environment while contributing to efforts to modernize integrations, evaluate new technologies, and improve how data is delivered across the firm.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines and integrations using SQL, SSIS, Python, and Boomi as appropriate, connecting databases, applications, APIs, and file-based sources.
- Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, transformations, and warehouse data structures to deliver consistent, well-documented datasets for reporting and analytics.
- Develop and maintain Azure DevOps build and release pipelines to deploy, schedule, and monitor Python-based data processes and automation.
- Build and maintain a reusable data quality framework, including data profiling, automated validation rules, reconciliation, monitoring, alerts, and quality metrics.
- Partner with business data owners and stewards to define quality rules and thresholds, investigate root causes, and track data issues through remediation.
- Support data governance initiatives by documenting metadata, lineage, source-to-target mappings, and critical data elements, and implementing standards and controls agreed with business owners.
- Contribute to the SSIS-to-Boomi migration, including inventorying existing processes and dependencies, documenting transformation logic, rebuilding integrations, testing and reconciling results, and supporting production cutover.
- Monitor and troubleshoot production pipelines, improving performance and reliability through logging, error handling, alerting, and recovery procedures.
- Support data platform evaluation and potential migration activities, including assessing existing workloads, adapting pipelines, validating data, and maintaining continuity for downstream users.
- Maintain technical documentation, testing procedures, and operational runbooks; communicate progress, dependencies, and issues clearly to technical and business stakeholders.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong proficiency in SQL and SQL Server, including complex joins, stored procedures, indexing, and query optimization.
- Hands-on experience developing and supporting production SSIS packages, ETL processes, and data integrations.
- Practical experience implementing data profiling, quality checks, reconciliation, monitoring, and issue resolution
- Understanding of data management and governance concepts, including metadata, lineage, data ownership, stewardship, and critical data elements.
- Hands-on Boomi integration development experience is preferred; experience migrating SSIS or other legacy integration processes to Boomi is a plus.
- Microsoft Fabric or Snowflake experience is a plus, including familiarity with data ingestion, pipelines, lakehouse or warehouse workloads, and notebooks.
- Working knowledge of Python for data processing, validation, and automation.
- Familiarity with API and file-based integrations, version control, testing, and controlled deployment practices; experience with Azure DevOps pipelines and releases is preferred.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and troubleshooting skills, with attention to data accuracy, production reliability, and documentation.
- Ability to work collaboratively, manage competing priorities, learn new technologies, and explain technical concepts clearly to business stakeholders.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- 3–5 years of relevant experience in data engineering, data integration, or data management roles.
- Experience supporting integration modernization or data platform migrations is a plus.
- Understanding of data warehousing and dimensional modeling, including star and snowflake schemas.
- Experience in a law firm, professional services organization, or with financial systems is a plus.
