The Role

Eight Sleep is revolutionizing sleep optimization through cutting‑edge technology, and we need a world‑class Data Engineer to power our next phase of hypergrowth. You'll architect and build the data infrastructure that drives decisions for millions of users while working with some of the smartest minds in health tech. This role is not just another data position—you'll be the technical architect behind systems that directly impact human wellness at scale and fuel our exponential growth.

We prefer someone based out of our NYC HQ or SF Office.

What You’ll Build

• Power breakthrough business growth by building the data systems that inform our expansion strategy, optimize customer acquisition, and drive conversion and retention across global markets
• Enable data‑driven scaling through sophisticated analytics that guide everything from growth strategies to market prioritization to product roadmap decisions
• Build the growth infrastructure that processes customer behavior, revenue metrics, and market performance data to fuel our next phase of hypergrowth
• Architect systems that scale with demand as we expand our user base exponentially, ensuring our data platform grows seamlessly from thousands to millions of users
• Drive personalized user experiences by architecting the analytics pipelines that power individualized sleep recommendations, temperature optimization, and wellness insights for each Eight Sleep user
• Drive operational excellence by creating dashboards and automated insights that keep our fast‑growing business running efficiently across all functions
• Shape strategic decisions by partnering with leadership to transform complex user and business data into clear growth opportunities and competitive advantages

What You’ll Need to Succeed

• 6+ years building production data platforms that support high‑stakes decision‑making at scale—you've seen what works and what breaks
• Mastery of modern data stack: SQL, Python, DBT, Snowflake, and the judgment to know when to use each tool
• Proven track record designing both batch and streaming architectures that handle massive scale while maintaining sub‑second performance
• Cross‑functional leadership experience—you can translate complex technical concepts into business value and influence without authority
• Obsession with quality and reliability—you build systems that just work, with monitoring and testing that catches issues before users do
• Communication superpowers—you can present to the C‑suite, debug with engineers, and mentor junior teammates with equal effectiveness
• Deep expertise in data modeling and warehousing—you think in terms of dimensional models, star schemas, OBT, and performance optimization, and know where each solution thrives
• Technical mentorship DNA—you naturally elevate the capabilities of everyone around you while driving adoption of engineering best practices
