Job summary

Vitol in Houston, TX is seeking a skilled Data Engineer / Oracle Database Administrator to design, develop, implement and maintain our core databases and related data processes.

You will optimize data architecture with the development team, own database performance, security and disaster recovery, and plan migrations from on‑premises to cloud platforms, while collaborating with product teams to expand data schemas and ensure data integrity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
• Experience with large Oracle Databases and complex SQL/PL/SQL.
• Ability to design and optimize data architectures.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement and maintain core databases and related processes.
• Optimize and simplify data-related architecture with the development team.
• Take ownership of performance and capacity monitoring aspects of the databases.
• Optimization and execution of data-related jobs and scripts as required.

• Contribute to the evolution of existing disaster recovery plans; enforce security standards and controls.
• Determine, enforce and document DB policies, procedures and standards within the team.
• Plan and execute migration of data from on premises databases to cloud data platforms.

Design, develop, implement and maintain our core databases and related processes; Work with development team to optimize and simplify our data related architecture; Take ownership of performance and capacity monitoring aspects of our databases; Optimization and execution of data related jobs and scripts as required; Support and collaborate with product developers to expand our data schemas and optimize for common use cases; Contribute to the evolution of existing disaster recovery plans; Proactively manage and maintain security standards and controls; Determine, enforce and document DB policies, procedures and standards within the team; Performance testing and evaluation to ensure optimal performance and data integrity. Implement database replication between environments using internal tools and Enterprise Database tools. Plan and execute migration of data from on premises databases to cloud data platforms.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science or a related field and seven (7) years of experience as a Data Engineer or Oracle Database Administrator.

Experience to include:

• Six (6) years of experience working with large Oracle Databases, including working with complex SQL statements and PL/SQL packages.
• Four (4) years in optimization and execution of data-related jobs and scripts.
• Two (2) years of experience designing databases and developing high-volume data solutions; and, building and maintaining highly available, replicated, enterprise-scale database environments.
