Job summary

REGION 4 Education Service Center in Houston, TX seeks a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain cloud-based data platforms and analytics pipelines using AWS, Snowflake, and BI tools. Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Math, Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology.
  • 4+ years of experience in data analytics, data engineering, or business intelligence roles.
  • Hands-on experience building dashboards and reports using Power BI, AWS QuickSight, or similar tools.
  • Advanced SQL experience across cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, Aurora, or equivalent).
  • Experience designing and maintaining cloud-based data pipelines using AWS services (Glue, Athena, Lambda, S3, DMS, etc.).
  • Experience migrating legacy reporting solutions to modern cloud BI platforms.
  • Experience working with structured and semi-structured data.
  • Experience using Python, R, or similar languages for data transformation and analysis.
  • Strong understanding of data quality, data governance, and reporting best practices.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Solution Architect and Product Teams to design and implement data and analytics architecture for escWorks and NextGen platforms.
  • Build and maintain scalable cloud data pipelines and curated datasets using AWS and Snowflake.
  • Develop and support dashboards, reports, and analytics solutions using Power BI, AWS QuickSight, or equivalent tools.
  • Gather and document reporting requirements from internal teams and external customers.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and reliability across platforms and reports.
  • Migrate legacy reporting solutions to modern cloud BI platforms.
  • Maintain documentation of data models, pipelines, and reporting logic.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies and contribute to sprint planning and delivery.
  • Support production analytics systems and respond to data-related incidents or escalations.
  • Continuously evaluate and adopt new technologies and best practices.

Job Goal:

Design, build, and maintain scalable cloud-based data platforms, analytics pipelines, and business intelligence solutions that support escWorks, DevelopWorks (NextGen), and other Region 4 enterprise systems. This role partners closely with the Solution Architect to deliver trusted, high-quality dashboards, reports, and insights using AWS, Snowflake, Power BI, and related technologies.

Qualifications:
Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field such as Math, Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Technology

Experience:

  • 4+ years of experience in data analytics, data engineering, or business intelligence roles
  • Strong experience working in Agile environments and delivering work through sprint-based development
  • Hands-on experience building dashboards and reports using Power BI, AWS QuickSight, or similar tools
  • Advanced SQL experience across cloud data platforms (Snowflake, Redshift, Aurora, or equivalent)
  • Experience designing and maintaining cloud-based data pipelines using AWS services (Glue, Athena, Lambda, S3, DMS, etc.)
  • Experience supporting reporting and analytics for customer-facing or enterprise platforms
  • Experience migrating legacy reporting solutions (e.g., .NET, Crystal Reports, SSRS) to modern cloud BI platforms
  • Experience working with structured and semi-structured data
  • Experience using Python, R, or similar languages for data transformation and analysis
  • Strong understanding of data quality, data governance, and reporting best practices

  • Familiarity with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and DevOps practices for data platforms
  • Experience supporting AI/ML-enabled analytics or advanced reporting use cases
