Job summary

RiseMe in Huntsville, AL is hiring a Data Engineer to design, build, and maintain data infrastructure for a critical modernization project. You will migrate data from legacy systems to a modern platform, develop ETL processes, and ensure quality, integrity, traceability, and governance across the data lifecycle.

You will collaborate with SMEs to define mappings, optimize SQL Server schemas and data workflows, and support CI/CD and data-layer testing.

Qualifications

• Minimum 4 years of data engineering, ETL, or data migration experience.
• Experience designing ETL pipelines with SSIS or comparable tools.
• Proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server for schema design and query optimization.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Background Investigation.

Employment Type: Full-Time, 40 hours per week

Position Summary: The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data infrastructure and architecture for a mission-critical application modernization effort. This role supports data migration from legacy systems to the modernized platform, develops and manages ETL processes, and ensures data quality, integrity, traceability, performance, and compliance with established data governance standards.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design, develop, and maintain ETL/data pipelines using SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) or comparable technologies for legacy data migration.
• Define and document source-to-target mappings, transformation rules, validation logic, and data migration procedures.
• Collaborate with SMEs and stakeholders to validate data mappings, business rules, and migrated data.
• Design and maintain scalable data architectures, database schemas, Data Dictionaries, and Entity Relationship Diagrams (ERDs).
• Manage ETL processes and monitor execution results to ensure data quality, integrity, completeness, and traceability.
• Optimize Microsoft SQL Server schemas, queries, indexes, and data workflows for application and reporting performance.
• Design and support data interfaces and integrations with internal and external systems, including APIs and enterprise data sources.
• Ensure database and data migration activities comply with applicable data governance, security, and API standards.
• Support CI/CD and automated data-layer testing, maintaining traceability between data activities and applicable user stories.
• Troubleshoot data migration, transformation, integration, and database performance issues.
• Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including sprint planning, standups, reviews, and retrospectives.
• Maintain clear technical documentation for data architecture, transformations, migration activities, validation results, and data interfaces.

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 4 years of relevant data engineering, ETL, database, or data migration experience.
• Experience designing and implementing ETL pipelines using SSIS or comparable tools.
• Strong proficiency with Microsoft SQL Server, including database/schema design, query optimization, and index tuning.
• Demonstrated experience with enterprise data migration, source-to-target mapping, data transformation, validation, and data quality.
• Experience designing data architectures optimized for transactional and/or analytical workloads.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust Background Investigation.

Prefreed Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited institution.
• Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or comparable certification.
• Experience with federal data governance frameworks and NIST SP 800-53/FedRAMP environments.
• Experience with REST APIs, JSON, XML, and CSV data integrations.
• Experience supporting federal law enforcement, case management, or other government systems.
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum and Digital.ai or similar tools.
• Experience with GIS data formats, ESRI technologies, or i2 Analyst’s Notebook.
