Qualifications

• Masters Degree in School Counseling required or preferred.
• Experience in school counseling preferred.
• At least three years of successful teaching experience.
• Demonstrated mediation & relationship-building skills.
• Knowledge of the WV School Counseling model.
• Professional Student Support Certificate endorsed for School Counselor.
• Knowledge and experience working with WVEIS.

Responsibilities

• Discusses the comprehensive school counseling program with the school administrator.
• Develops and maintains a written plan for effective delivery of the school counseling program.
• Communicates goals of the program to educators, students, parents, and community leaders.
• Maintains current resources for education stakeholders.
• Uses data to develop comprehensive programs that meet student needs.
• Provides leadership and collaborates with other educators in the school-wide counseling program.
• Implements developmentally appropriate group activities to meet student needs and goals.
• Assists students with developing academic, career, and personal/social skills, goals, and plans.
• Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators on educational, career, and life planning.
• Provides individual and group counseling to students with identified concerns.
• Consults with parents, teachers, and administrators regarding student needs.
• Implements effective referral and follow-up processes.
