Job summary

Ingalls Shipbuilding is seeking a skilled technician to lay out, fabricate, and assemble standard and nonstandard jigs and fixtures. You will use CAD tools to design holding devices, set up optical instruments to verify alignment, and coordinate with engineering and production to meet tolerances.

You will monitor quality and prepare documentation for production release. Required is a High School diploma or equivalent with substantial related experience, or an Apprentice/Associate degree with

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent plus 5 years of related experience or an Apprentice/Associate degree with 3 years related experience.
  • Apprentice graduate/Associate's Degree in relevant discipline with related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lays out, fabricates, and assembles major jigs, fixtures, and tooling to exact tolerances.
  • Performs measurement surveys using photogrammetry, total stations, laser trackers or 3‑D instruments.
  • Plans work from drawings or own designs and sets up optical instruments to check alignment and fit.
  • Coordinates with engineering, production, and external stakeholders to interpret fabrication requirements.
  • Maintains documentation and readiness for production release.
  • Ensures quality control using statistical process controls or equivalent methods.

The Role

Lays out, fabricates, and assembles a variety of standard and nonstandard major jigs, fixtures, tool masters, master tooling gauges, and related tooling involving compound angles and complex contours where the establishment and coordination to exacting tolerances of numerous tooling holes and reference points between several planes are required. Performs measurement surveys using photogrammetry, total stations, laser trackers or other electronic 3‑D instruments. Uses computer aided designs (CAD) graphic user interface software for design. Plans work to be performed and determines methods and sequence of operations working from tool design drawings or own designs. Sets up and operates optical instruments to check overall and detailed alignment, fit, or adjustment of assemblies. Develops and designs holding devices and jig and fixture details. Prepares operational sequences and shop drawings covering parts fabrication and assembly to be performed by others. May monitor and verify quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures. Coordinate and update daily technical tasking, production priorities, and documentation schedules Interface with engineering, production, and external stakeholders to interpret part fabrication requirements and dimensional tolerances. Conduct technical reviews, approve accuracy control documentation, and ensure readiness for production release. Maintain operational understanding of fitting, welding, structural fabrication practices, and hull construction methodologies.

Must Have

High School diploma or equivalent and 5 years additional education and/or related experience; Apprentice graduate/ Associate's Degree in relevant discipline and 3 years of related experience. May require certification.

Nice to Have

Engineering Experience Preferred.
