Job summary

AWS in Oregon seeks a hands-on data center technician to maintain our world‑class infrastructure. You will perform server rack installations, hardware break‑fixes, and troubleshoot network issues to keep services available for millions of users.

You will be the primary contact for engineers, vendors, and contractors, participate in on‑call rotations, and contribute to documentation and training. Travel between data centers is required; shifts include nights and weekends.

Qualifications

  • 1+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience.
  • High school or equivalent diploma.
  • Work a flexible schedule including weekends, nights, and holidays.

Join our dynamic AWS team and become a critical guardian of global cloud infrastructure! You will maintain the heartbeat of Amazon’s world‑leading technology platform by ensuring seamless data center operations that power millions of businesses worldwide.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Perform server rack installations, hardware break‑fix across various components, troubleshoot network issues, and respond to operational incidents that impact service availability; escalating to senior technicians and management as needed.
  • Serve as a primary contact for internal and external stakeholders, including engineers, software developers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Perform on‑call duties and participate in scheduled maintenance and change‑management activities.
  • Contribute to documentation and process‑improvement initiatives based on analysis of operational issues.
  • Help train and onboard new team members.
Physical Requirements
  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds; participate in group lifts for 41+ pounds.
  • Work in cramped and/or elevated locations.
  • Bend, lift, stretch, and reach.
  • Stand and walk for up to eight hours a day.
  • Ascend and descend ladders, stairs, and gangways safely and without limitation.
  • Work in a noisy environment.
  • Work shifts longer than eight hours to support 24/7 operations, covering both night and day shifts.
Essential Requirements
  • Ability to travel to or commute between data center locations as needed.
  • Willingness to temporarily work at alternative sites during training periods or until assigned facility is operational.
  • Travel frequency will vary based on business needs and operational status of assigned facility.
  • Candidates must be able to travel over 50 miles or commute less than 50 miles to active data center sites as required by business needs.
Day in the Life
  • Take ownership of technical issues brought by the customer base, engaging other teams when needed to drive resolution.
  • Solve problems at their root and step back to understand the broader context.
  • Maintain service level agreements through proactive issue detection and reporting.
  • Work shift work that includes days, nights, weekends, and holidays; traveling within and outside the regional work area is required.

Basic Qualifications
  • 1+ years of computer/server hardware troubleshooting or related IT experience.
  • High school or equivalent diploma.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of network design, protocols, and Layer 1/2 troubleshooting.
  • Associate’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Computer Science, Networking Engineering) or equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing work and priorities through a ticketing system.
  • Experience in a data center or other critical environment.
