Job summary

Wesco is seeking a Data Center Technician to assemble, test, and deploy data center infrastructure on customer projects. Qualifications

Job Description

As a Data Center Technician, you will be responsible for supporting the assembly, integration, testing, and deployment preparation of data center infrastructure and customer deployment projects. This role performs hands‑on rack builds, hardware installation, quality inspections, testing activities, and documentation updates while following established operational, quality, and safety procedures. Working under the direction of Lead Technicians and Operations personnel, the technician supports the construction and validation of server, network, and structured cabling infrastructure within enterprise and hyperscale data center environments.

Responsibilities

• Assemble data center racks according to engineering drawings, rack elevations, build documentation, and customer requirements.
• Perform rack‑and‑stack activities including installation, relocation, and removal of servers, storage, and networking equipment.
• Install, terminate, label, troubleshoot, and document fiber optic and copper cabling.
• Read and interpret rack elevations, cable maps, deployment drawings, and installation documentation.
• Support customer deployment projects in enterprise, colocation, and hyperscale data center environments.
• Travel to customer and company sites to support installation, maintenance, deployment, and migration activities.
• Provide support for moves, adds, and changes within active data center environments.
• Install servers, storage systems, network equipment, rPDUs, cable management systems, and related rack infrastructure.
• Mount and secure equipment while adhering to established quality standards and work instructions.
• Perform rack-level testing and validation activities to verify mechanical, electrical, and operational readiness.
• Perform quality inspections throughout the build process and document findings, test results, and corrective actions.
• Troubleshoot assembly, cabling, and hardware installation issues and elevate concerns when necessary.
• Verify proper routing, labeling, and installation of cabling and rack hardware.
• Apply asset tags, serial number tracking, and configuration documentation to completed assemblies.
• Receive, inspect, stage, and organize incoming materials, rack components, and deployment equipment.
• Maintain inventory accuracy and material traceability through cycle counts and documentation updates.
• Assist with packaging, shipment preparation, and deployment staging of completed rack solutions.\
• Conduct regular physical and visual inspections of equipment and data center facilities.
• Follow all safety procedures including PPE, ESD, LOTO, and environmental requirements.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High School Degree or Equivalent required.
• 2+ years of experience in data center operations, rack integration, manufacturing, hardware deployment, electrical assembly, mechanical assembly, or a related technical environment.
• Experience performing rack‑and‑stack activities in data center environments.
• Experience terminating and troubleshooting fiber optic and copper cabling.
• Experience reading rack elevations and cable mapping documentation.
• Data Center Technician, Structured Cabling Technician, Smart Hands, Field Service, or Telecommunications Technician experience preferred.
• Experience supporting hyperscale, colocation, or enterprise data center environments preferred.
• Experience installing servers, storage systems, networking equipment, and rack infrastructure.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, rack elevations, schematics, and work instructions.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience with structured cabling, cable routing, labeling, and documentation practices.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Valid driver's license.
• Ability to travel up to 50% domestically to customer and company data center locations.

Working Environment

Data Center - The data center work environment is a highly secure, physically demanding, and structured operation, characterized by its loud, controlled temperature conditions and 24/7/365 uptime. The environment demands a high attention to detail and strong problem-solving skills to manage and troubleshoot critical equipment during regular operation and in emergency situations. Lifting up to 50 lbs, regular bending, stooping, climbing and long periods of walking / standing will be required.

Physical Expectations

• Work is physically strenuous, and workers are required to lift heavy packages up to 50 pounds.
• Work may require excessive bending or stooping.
• Employee required to walk long distances repeatedly throughout the day.
• Employee required to climb ladders.
• Employee required to use hand tools.

Compensation Details

Compensation Details: $27.72 - $34.66 Per Hour
This amount is what we reasonably believe we will pay for the position; however, offer amounts may vary based on factors such as geographic location, relevant education, experience, qualifications, skills, shift, or any collective bargaining agreements.
For eligible positions, compensation may include participation in a bonus or sales incentive plan, subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable plan documents. For certain sales roles, Wesco also offers a commission structure that provides additional compensation based on sales results, as defined by the applicable commission plan.
