Bala Consulting Engineers in Boston seeks a Systems Specialist – Technology to design and document building technology systems with a telecom focus for data centers. You will collaborate with architects, MEP engineers, and clients to deliver coordinated, code‑compliant and resilient solutions.

The role emphasizes technical design, documentation, coordination across offices, and ongoing professional growth with a rich benefits package including PTO and loan assistance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or associate degree in a relevant engineering, design or management discipline, or history of continuing education and certification on technology design for the built environment.
• Industry certifications such as BICSI RCDD, OSP, DCDC are preferred but not required.
• Strong interpersonal and collaboration skills; data center market experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and document telecommunications systems, including structured cabling copper and fiber, equipment rooms, MDF/IDF layouts, pathways, and backbone distribution.
• Coordinate with Bala’s Audiovisual & Security teams and with clients; develop scope of responsibility documents and coordination materials.
• Develop basis-of-design narratives and performance criteria aligned with client IT and security standards; interface with clients and attend meetings/site visits.
• Provide QA/QC on technology projects and, as needed, assist project managers across Bala’s vertical markets.
