Job summary

CBRE Group, Inc. seeks a Data Center Technician to perform preventive maintenance and corrective repairs within a Data Center operation. This night-shift role is on-site at the Houston facility and is part of the Critical and Technical Services team responsible for maintenance in critical client environments.

You’ll work with mechanical and electrical systems, monitor BMS alarms, and coordinate with third-party vendors to ensure safety, compliance, and uninterrupted operations at the facility.

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to work night shifts, including weekends/holidays.
  • Must meet the physical requirements of the role.
  • Ability to follow defined procedures and communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with daily site inspections of mechanical and engineering systems and equipment.
  • Complete planned preventive and reactive maintenance on data center equipment.
  • React to BMS alarms and perform emergency repairs as needed.
  • Coordinate with third-party vendors to ensure compliance with processes and laws.
  • Record maintenance activities and ensure safety and regulatory standards.
  • Take meter readings from UPS, PDUs, and utilities during walkthroughs.

Job description

About the Role:

As a CBRE Data Center Technician, you will perform preventative maintenance and corrective repairs within a Data Center operation.

This job is part of the Critical and Technical Services job function. They are responsible for technical maintenance services in critical client environments.

This is a nightshift position and requires on-site presence at the Data Center facility based in Houston, TX.

What You’ll Do:
  • Assist with daily site inspections of all Mechanical & Engineering systems and technical equipment, including servicing and maintenance.
  • Ensure the site's environmental conditions provide a safe work environment.
  • React to Building Management System alarms, and complete emergency repairs as needed.
  • Work with third-party vendors, ensuring compliance with company-developed processes, procedures, and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Alert management if subcontractor performance doesn’t meet all requirements per the Master Service Agreement.
  • Complete planned preventative maintenance (PM) and reactive maintenance on all equipment.
  • Check BMS for running and alarm conditions and respond to HVAC-related client problems.
  • Building walkthroughs, taking meter readings from UPS, PDU’s and utilities.
  • Provide fixes to facility and plant faults and defects.
  • Complete assigned work according to established processes and procedures. Follow all safety processes and requirements and ensure all regulatory requirements and quality standards are met. Conduct routine quality checks for comprehensive maintenance records.
  • Complete all required training to ensure successful completion of all job-related responsibilities.
  • Use existing procedures to solve straightforward problems while having a limited opportunity to exercise discretion.
  • Impact through clearly defined duties, methods, and tasks are described in detail.
  • Deliver own output by following defined procedures and processes under close supervision and guidance.
What You’ll Need:
Technical Skills:
  • Electrical / Mechanical: UPS, PDUs, LV/MV switchgear, panel boards, transfer switches (ATS/STS), grounding, three-phase power basics, diesel generator interfaces, CRAC/CRAH equipment, chillers, pumps, cooling towers, N+1 concepts.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products. Examples include Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.
General Requirements & Skills:
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Ability to work shifts that may include weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to Meet the physical requirements of this role.
  • To effectively present information to an internal department, client, management and/or colleagues.
  • Ability to follow basic work routines and standards in the application of work.
  • Communication skills to exchange straightforward information.
  • Strong organizational skills with an inquisitive mindset.
  • Basic math skills. Ability to calculate simple figures such as percentages, discounts, and markups.
