Overview
HDR Engineering is seeking a Data Center Substation Coordinator to join our Power Delivery team. This role is part of a national team working on data center substation projects. The successful candidate will contribute to engineering for electrical substations (Low, Medium and High Voltage) and substation systems under supervision, with growth opportunities in Protection and Control (Indoor) and Physical (Outdoor) HV substation design.
Responsibilities
- Prepare engineering drawings, calculations, analyses, reports and designs for electrical substations (Low, Medium and High Voltage) and substation systems under the direction of more senior engineers and designers.
- Prepare calculations, design sketches and redline drawings.
- Work with Designers and CAD Technicians to develop drawings in accordance with national design standards, safety codes and project specifications and requirements.
- Develop typical designs including one-line diagrams, protection and control schematic development, wiring diagrams, SCADA, communications, substation physical layouts, material lists, conduit and cable sizing/routing, AC/DC systems calculations and sizing, and substation grounding.
Occasional short-term travel (typically 1-5 days) may be necessary. Longer assignments may be required infrequently on project assignments.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Computer skills in Microsoft Office
- An attitude and commitment to being an active participant in our employee-owned culture
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity or willingness to learn electrical design software such as SKM PowerTools, ETAP, or EasyPower
- Openness to cross-functional assignments in adjacent industries (wastewater, power generation, mining, civil/structural, etc.)
- Ability to obtain EIT/FE registration within 12 months
- Knowledge of Microstation and/or AutoCAD a plus
