Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) in Seattle, WA, seeks a Data Center Structural Engineer to join its design team. The role focuses on creating resilient, cost-efficient DC facilities managed by AWS worldwide.

You will guide the design of prototypical DCs, review consultant drawings, and support large-scale implementation while ensuring safety and security at scale.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or equivalent.
• 7+ years of structural design experience for industrial/commercial projects.
• 5+ years in data center, mission critical, hospital, schools, commercial/residential tower projects.
• Proficiency with building codes (IBC, ASCE).
• Plan to obtain PE license within 12 months.
• US citizen required.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer data center structures for AWS facilities.
• Review milestone drawings and provide technical guidance to project teams.
• Ensure designs meet safety, cost, and performance targets for global DC deployments.
• Support seismic, wind, snow loading, and forensic analysis where needed.
• Collaborate with Architects, Engineers, and Designers to solve complex structural challenges.

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Structural Engineering
• 7+ years experience in structural design for industrial or commercial projects
• 5+ years of experience with design of Data Center, Mission Critical, Hospital, Schools, Commercial or Residential Tower facilities.
• Proficiency in building codes, regulations, and standard including IBC and ASCE.
• Planning on obtaining Professional Engineering License in next 12 months
• US Citizen

Preferred Qualifications:

• Professional Engineer License
• Experience with building codes and regulations for your region
• Experience carrying design concepts through exploration, development, and into deployment or mass production
• Experience reading, interpreting, and creating construction drawings, specifications, and submittal documents
• Detailed understanding of tilt-up and precast concrete structures, structural steel systems, seismic design, wind loading, snow loading, and forensic analysis of building design and construction defects.
• Experience in value engineering for building structural systems.
• Experience in design and calculation for auxiliary framing systems used to support cable tray, conduit, ductwork, etc.
• Experience in design and review of non-structural components and non-building structures
• Ability to travel internationally

As a subject matter expert, you will have a direct impact on the design of prototypical DC facilities, provide technical guidance to team members, review milestone drawings by consultants, solve large scale implementation issues, and be responsible for structural design requirements.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
