Job summary

Unisys is seeking a Data Center Smart Hands Engineer to provide onsite technical support for data center operations. This role covers hands-on server, storage, and network support, including install, rack and stacking, cabling, and ongoing maintenance.

The successful candidate will perform hardware diagnostics, break/fix activities, and work with engineering and support teams to resolve incidents while maintaining thorough documentation and adhering to security and safety standards.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related discipline preferred.
  • 4–6 years of experience supporting enterprise IT infrastructure, servers, storage, and networking.
  • Experience in data center environments with adherence to operational and security standards.
  • Strong understanding of server hardware, storage systems, operating systems, and network infrastructure.
  • Experience with hardware diagnostics, repairs, and equipment installations.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on support for server, storage, network, and peripheral equipment within data center.
  • Perform hardware break/fix activities, including component replacement, diagnostics, and troubleshooting.
  • Install, rack, stack, cable, and decommission IT equipment according to documented procedures.
  • Support network infrastructure deployments, including switches, routers, firewalls, and cabling.
  • Perform hardware testing, validation, and certification activities for servers and storage systems.
  • Utilize advanced troubleshooting techniques and tools to resolve incidents; escalate as needed.
  • Maintain documentation of work performed, asset changes, and site activities; support IMACD requests.
  • Follow change management, security, compliance, and safety procedures.
  • Provide VIP support and serve as liaison between clients and remote support teams.

Work Environment

Onsite data center and client facilities. Ability to lift and move IT equipment in accordance with safety guidelines. May require after-hours, weekend, or on-call support based on operational needs. Travel may be required for multi-site support engagements.
