Job summary

Meta is hiring an entry-level Data Center Server Repair Technician to support the FORCE team. You will learn server hardware repair, follow detailed procedures, and assist with troubleshooting to maintain global server reliability.

Ideal candidates have basic Linux and hardware familiarity, great attention to detail, and strong communication skills. The role involves lifting, moving servers, and extended shifts in a high-temperature data center environment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Basic hands-on experience with computers; Linux skills preferred.
• Willingness to learn about server hardware and repair procedures.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and SOPs.
• Ability to work under close supervision; tasks reviewed by Manager/Team Lead.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to lift/move at least 50 pounds (22 kg).
• Willingness to work extended shifts in a data center including temperature exposure.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine physical checks of server hardware and assist with guided troubleshooting.
• Follow documented procedures to support server hardware reseats, swaps, and repairs.
• Run CLI commands or other diagnostic steps to identify basic hardware issues.
• Assist with ticket resolution by gathering information and escalating issues as needed.
• Participate in physical inspections of server hardware and verify serial numbers and power.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed in tickets, checklists, and logs.
• Support remote uptime by promptly responding to tickets and updating systems.
• Manage inventory of server spare parts according to established processes.

As part of the Fleet Operations, Reliability and Central Engineering ("FORCE") team at Meta, the Data center Server Repair Technician is an entry-level position. This role is designed for individuals beginning their careers in technology or data center operations, with a focus on learning foundational technical skills, following established procedures, and supporting the reliability of Meta’s global server fleet.

Data Center Server Repair Technician Responsibilities:

• Basic understanding of computer and network hardware, including cabling (Linux preferred).
• Willingness to learn and follow detailed instructions, MOPs, and standard operating procedures.
• Strong attention to detail and reliability in task execution.
• Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
• Perform routine physical checks of server hardware and assist with guided troubleshooting.
• Follow documented procedures (MOPs) to support server hardware reseats, swaps, and repairs.
• Follow documented troubleshooting procedures, including running CLI commands or other advanced diagnosis, to identify, diagnose and fix basic hardware repairs.
• Assist with ticket resolution by gathering requested information and escalating issues as needed.
• Participate in physical inspections of server hardware in data halls (including serial number and power verification) as directed.
• Maintain accurate records of work performed, including updates to tickets, checklists and logs.
• Support the team in maintaining server uptime and reliability by responding promptly to assigned tickets.
• Accurately pull and manage inventory (server spare parts) according to established processes and update inventory systems promptly.
• Communicate clearly with team members, and elevate issues when outside of scope or expertise.
• Participate in training and development activities to build technical skills.
• Adhere to safety and security protocols at all times.
• Physically assist with moving and racking servers for projects and operational needs.
• Routine operation of hand and power tools (such as drills, screwdrivers, safety cutters, and lifts) to support installation and maintenance tasks.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic hands-on experience with computers, basic linux skills preferred
• Willingness to learn about server hardware and repair procedures
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and adhere to standard operating procedures
• Ability to work under close supervision, with tasks/tickets assigned and reviewed by their Manager/Team Lead
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Ability to safely lift, push, pull, and move at least 50 pounds (22 kg)
• Capable of walking long distances and standing for extended periods throughout the day
• Willingness to work extended shifts in a data center environment, including exposure to temperatures ranging from 79°F to 105°F (26°C to 40°C), while maintaining proper hydration
• Flexibility to work a variable schedule, including weekends and holidays

Preferred Qualifications:

• Coursework or certifications in IT, networking, computer science, or related fields (e.g., CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, fiber/optical cabling)
• Experience in data center environments or IT support roles (including school, volunteer, or hobbyist experience)
• Interest in developing stronger server technical skills over time
• Curiosity and a willingness to learn are highly valued
