Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Sterling, Virginia is seeking a Data Center Security Specialist II to serve as the primary physical security contact for an assigned data center site.

You will manage day-to-day security operations, oversee vendor performance, and ensure compliance with security standards and policies. You will actively monitor access controls, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems while collaborating with operations teams to maintain a secure environment.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of overseeing security operations and working with security vendors/contractors.
• Knowledge of access-control systems, network security, application- and system-development security, security architecture and models, cryptography, and operations security.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on-site contact for physical security posture, managing security tasks and priorities for the assigned data center.
• Conduct inspections, audits, and walkthroughs to identify vulnerabilities and ensure policy compliance.
• Manage vendor relationships, track service deliverables and SLAs, and escalate corrective actions as needed.
• Review and triage operational tickets per SLAs and communicate security policies to partner teams.
• Respond to security incidents, support investigations, and contribute to business continuity planning.

Key job responsibilities

• Serve as the primary on‑site contact for physical security posture, managing security tasks, strategy, and priorities for your assigned data center site or campus.
• Conduct inspections, audits, and walkthroughs to identify vulnerabilities, ensure compliance with security standards and policies, and coordinate repairs and preventative maintenance for security equipment.
• Manage vendor relationships by assessing compliance with established work orders, tracking service deliverables and SLAs, and escalating corrective actions as needed.
• Review and triage operational request tickets in accordance with SLAs, and communicate security policies and procedures to partner teams effectively.
• Respond to security incidents, support post‑incident investigations, and contribute to business continuity planning and process improvement initiatives.

A day in the life

Your day begins with a walkthrough of your assigned site, checking that access control systems, cameras, and intrusion detection hardware are functioning properly. You review overnight incident reports and triage incoming operational tickets, prioritizing items that need immediate attention. You meet with contract security vendors to review performance metrics and approve work activities that may affect physical security. You also collaborate with data center operations teams to address emerging issues, document findings, and refine standard operating procedures.

Basic Qualifications

• 2+ years of overseeing security operations and working with security vendors/contractors experience
• Knowledge of one or more of the following domains: access‑control system and methodology, network security, application‑and system‑development security, security architecture and models, cryptography, and operations security

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent, or 2+ years of law enforcement or security‑related experience
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, InfoPath, SharePoint, etc.

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
