Job summary

Overwatch in the Dallas area seeks a Data Center Operations Instructor to train experienced technicians in mechanical and electrical lab work for mission-critical data centers.

The role focuses on safe operation, monitoring, and incident response within lab environments, delivering hands-on instruction and real-world examples. In-person, Monday–Friday, with a comprehensive benefits package and relocation support where applicable.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5–7 years in data center operations, facilities, or mechanical systems.
  • Hands-on experience with cooling systems, HVAC, or similar infrastructure.
  • Experience with incident response and emergency procedures in mission-critical environments.
  • Ability to instruct, mentor, or train others in a classroom or lab setting.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver instructor-led training using established curriculum and lesson plans.
  • Teach mechanical systems including HVAC, cooling systems, and related infrastructure.
  • Teach electrical systems including generators, UPS, switchgear, PDU, and lab infrastructure.
  • Instruct students on data center operations, monitoring, and incident response procedures.
  • Maintain classroom discipline, instructional flow, and professional standards.

Role Overview

BuildNow, in partnership withForgeNow, is seeking a Data Center Operations Instructor withoperational datacenter mechanicaland electricalsystemsexpertiseto serve as an Instructor for the Data Center Operations Track.

This role is ideal for experienced technicians, operators, or engineers who are ready to transition into instruction,training students to safelyoperate, monitor, and respond to issues within mission-critical environments.

The instructor will focus on mechanical infrastructure systems and casualty response, preparing students to performroles in mission-critical data center operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver instructor‑led training using established curriculum and lesson plans
  • Teach mechanical systems including HVAC, chilled water, cooling systems, and supporting infrastructure
  • Teach electrical systems including generators,UPS units, switchgear panels, power distribution units, and supporting infrastructurein a lab environment
  • Deliver clear, hands‑on instruction on datacenter hardware lifecycles, including deployment, maintenance, upgrades, and end‑of‑life processesin a labenvironment
  • Instruct students on data center operations, monitoring, and incident (casualty) response procedures
  • Reinforce safe operating practices and adherence toestablishedprocedures and checklists
  • Comfortable with hands‑on (lab) training as well as theory
  • Maintain classroom discipline, instructional flow, and professional standards
  • Track and report student attendance, participation, and performance
  • Enforce testing integrity and adherence to school policies
  • Manage, inspect, andmaintainlab equipment and training aids
  • Providereal‑world examples from data center or mission‑critical operations environments
  • Identifycurriculum gaps and provide feedback for continuous improvement
  • Communicate material, supply, and equipment needs proactively
  • Model professionalism, accountability, and operational discipline
  • Performadditionalduties as assigned
Qualifications
Required Experience & Skills
  • Minimum 5–7 years of experience in data center operations, facilities, or mechanical systems
  • Hands‑on experience with cooling systems, HVAC, chilled water plants, or similar infrastructure
  • Hands‑on experience with generators, UPS units, switchgear panels, power distribution units, and supporting infrastructure
  • Experience with incident response, troubleshooting, or emergency procedures inmission‑critical environments
  • Demonstrated leadership and ability to instruct, mentor, or train others
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills
  • Proficiencywith Microsoft Office and basic digital tools
Preferred Experience
  • Experience in mission‑critical facilities (data centers, hospitals, industrial plants, or military systems)
  • Familiarity with BMS/DCIM systems and operational monitoring tools
  • Military background a plus
Education
  • High school diploma or equivalent (required)
  • Technical training or certifications in mechanical systems (preferred)
Certifications(Required or obtained within 30 days)
  • OSHA 30
  • CPR / First Aid
  • Relevant mechanical or facilities certifications (preferred)
Schedule & Work Environment
  • Monday – Friday | 7:00 AM – 3:30 PM
  • In‑person instruction and lab environment
  • Dallas / Fort Worth area
