Job summary

Google Fort Wayne data center is seeking a seasoned Facility Technician lead to run and optimize critical electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems. You will read blueprints, supervise daily operations, and partner with senior technicians to ensure reliable power, cooling and environmental safety at a high-availability site.

Responsibilities include leading compliance activities, monitoring site performance, reducing operational costs, and guiding programs across global data centers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of data center operations or related operational experience in non-DC industries.
• 5 years managing technical teams and vendors responsible for electrical, mechanical, and controls infrastructure.

Responsibilities

• Lead compliance activities and analyze results for data centers globally, ensuring regional and global teams follow guidelines and design standards.
• Facilitate monitoring of data center systems operations, control site activities to minimize risk, and ensure effective responses to excursions.
• Drive efforts to keep sites following facility, maintenance, and standard programs globally while improving those policies and programs.
• Develop strategies to minimize operational costs, improve efficiency, and reduce environmental impact at a site, and drive site-level programs.
• Incorporate expertise to recommend data center design improvements to optimize equipment and operations for next-generation data centers.

Minimum qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent practical experience.
• 8 years of experience in data center operations or other relevant operational experience in non-DC industries (e.g., power generation, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and refrigeration, industrial manufacturing, military, oil and gas, maritime/marine, chemical cluster, etc.).
• 5 years of experience managing technical teams and vendors in charge of operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical, mechanical, and controls infrastructure and components.

Preferred qualifications

• Experience with electrical and mechanical systems in a data center or similar environment.
• Experience collaborating with cross-functional business units to meet company goals and standards.
• Understanding of power and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) requirements for high-availability data centers.

About the job

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems in the world. Facility Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions. Some duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non-critical electrical or mechanical system components). You'll provide daily assistance to senior technicians as you read blueprints/schematics, conduct tours of systems and assess their working order.

You will develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical and HVAC systems in the world. US: $138000 - $200000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits
