Job summary

Comcast, a Fortune 30 global media and technology company, seeks an experienced Data Center Operations and Design Engineer to lead deployment activities and day‑to‑day operations in a critical facility. The role drives reliability, scalability, and efficiency while mentoring teammates and maintaining safety and compliance across data center infrastructure.

The engineer will be onsite in Hillsboro, OR, with two shift options and an on‑call weekend schedule.

Qualifications

  • 2–5+ years of experience installing and supporting switches, routers, servers in data center or critical facility.
  • Experience supporting high‑speed data, voice, IP, and network infrastructure.
  • Understanding of data center power and HVAC environments.

Responsibilities

  • Manage rack, stack, power, cabling, deployment, decommissioning, and migration of equipment within the critical facility.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, support outage response, and drive issues to closure.
  • Coordinate change activities, maintenance work, and project execution schedules.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot structured cabling infrastructure and support capacity.
  • Develop and maintain MOPs, procedures, and validation steps for safe work with minimal impact.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation, respond to after‑hours incidents, and coordinate recovery actions.

Job Summary

We’re seeking an experienced Data Center Operations and Design Engineer to provide technical leadership across deployment activities and day-to-day operations within a critical facility environment. This role serves as a member of the Data Center Engineering team, responsible for complex hardware installations, decommissioning, migrations, structured cabling, maintenance execution, troubleshooting, operational incident response, and on-call support. The ideal candidate brings advanced hands‑on technical expertise, leads cross-functional projects and vendor engagements, applies sound engineering judgment in infrastructure planning and equipment placement, develops and maintains technical procedures and MOPs, mentors team members, and drives operational excellence while ensuring data center operations are executed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards. They play a key role in maintaining reliable, scalable, and highly available infrastructure while continuously identifying opportunities to improve processes, service reliability, and operational performance.

This engineer works onsite in our Hillsboro, OR Data Center. Two possible shifts are Monday-Thursday, 8am-7pm OR Monday-Friday 8am-5pm with a rotating on-call weekend schedule.

What You’ll Do:
  • Manage rack, stack, power, cabling, deployment, decommissioning, and migration of equipment within the critical facility.
  • Troubleshoot operational issues, support outage response activities, and engage appropriate resources to drive issues to closure.
  • Coordinate change activities, maintenance work, technical project execution, resource planning, and implementation schedules.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot structured cabling infrastructure and support day‑to‑day capacity and operational requirements.
  • Develop, maintain, and execute MOPs, technical procedures, and validation steps to ensure work is completed safely and with minimal impact.
  • Participate in the on‑call rotation, respond to after‑hours incidents and urgent operational issues, and coordinate escalation or recovery actions as needed.
  • Document incident details, actions taken, and follow‑up requirements to support effective handoff, root cause review, and continuous improvement.
  • Interface with vendors and internal stakeholders to install, maintain, troubleshoot, and support data center infrastructure and related services.

Skills & Experience We’re Looking For:

  • 2-5+ years of experience installing and supporting switches, routers, servers, and rack‑mounted equipment in a data center or critical facility
  • Experience supporting high‑speed data, voice, IP, and network infrastructure
  • Working knowledge of power systems, including PDUs, ATSs, and UPSs
  • Understanding of data center power and HVAC environments
  • Ability to plan installations, manage inventory, and maintain accurate documentation

Additional Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Exposure to AI tools, automation, or data‑driven technologies
  • Experience creating and maintaining technical documentation and procedures
  • Familiarity with DCIM tools, ticketing systems, and data center support platforms
  • Experience coordinating vendors, materials, and project work
  • Strong problem‑solving, organizational, and analytical skills
  • Effective communication and teamwork across technical and business teams
  • Ability to work independently, adapt in fast‑paced environments, and execute with high quality
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard computer applications
  • Demonstrates accountability, sound judgment, and professionalism
