Johnson Controls is seeking a skilled HVAC mechanic to join our Data Center Service Team in Capitol Heights, MD. You’ll work on light to heavy commercial equipment in mission-critical environments and advance through our Service Technical Academy.

The role emphasizes safety, on-site installation and repair of chillers, pumps, fans, and ammonia systems, plus opportunities for certification, union-aligned pay, a company vehicle, tools, and uniforms.

Qualifications

• Eight+ years of commercial/industrial HVAC troubleshooting experience.
• Experience with rooftop units, pumps, fans, boilers, chillers, compressors.
• Repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, ammonia/hydrocarbon components.
• EPA refrigerants license and valid driver's license.
• Willingness to travel 10–20% to support customers.
• Must pass a knowledge examination and be a UA member or willing to join.

Responsibilities

Mechanics must have practical work experience in light commercial or commercial mechanical equipment. May be required to satisfactorily pass an examination to identify special skills. Scope of work shall be limited to commercial HVACR service. Servicemen may partner with Journeymen in the repair of centrifugal, steam turbines, and absorption machines, open-drive screw chillers and ammonia systems. Perform maintenance, repair and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems. We provide factory certification through our Service Technical Academy (STA) with recognition, monetary rewards, and advancement. We offer incentive programs and a #1 focus on employee safety. Provide quotes to support recommendations and solutions. **What we look for****Required*** Must be a member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL-CIO.* Be a dedicated member of a North America Branch team willing to learn and be responsible for system trouble shooting, repair and aftermarket services for this fast-growing business.* Minimum of Eight (8) years Commercial and/or industrial, mechanical troubleshooting experience in the HVAC industry and Industrial Petrochemical, or Data Center vertical environments. This includes Rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, plumbing.* Able to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers and/or ammonia / hydrocarbon system components.* Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.* Able to install complete systems, (Chillers, Rooftop Units, plumbing and all supporting mechanical systems).* Mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser etc. of pumps, fans, Compressors.* Able to use vibration equipment to trouble shoot drivelines.* Travel maybe required 10% to 20% to support Branch Customers activities, trouble shooting, installation and repair.* You will be required to pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.* Opportunity to invest in career development.
