Job summary

Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Texas is seeking a Data Center Manager to lead engineering teams and drive operational excellence across AWS data centers in Wink.

You will refine processes, mentor high performers, and collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure safety, reliability, and cost efficiency. This role requires 4+ years IT/data center experience, on-call facilities exposure, and networking knowledge.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years IT experience or Bachelor's degree in CS/Engineering/Math or equivalent.
  • 1+ years of operations and on-call support for data center facilities or production facilities.
  • 1+ years of networking experience (DNS, DHCP, SSL, TCP/IP).

Responsibilities

  • Managing and developing teams of engineers, providing technical and leadership expertise and ensuring highest levels of performance.
  • Maintaining existing Data Centers.
  • Helping build and bring online new Data Centers.
  • Constantly improving processes and procedures.
  • Managing relationships with external vendors and contractors.
  • Liaising with internal teams and management groups.
  • Ensuring Health & Safety standards in all Data Centers.
  • Creating and maintaining metrics to drive positive changes.
  • Assisting in implementing service methodologies including incident, problem, change, and capacity management.

As a Data Center Manager in Amazon, you will get to manage the world’s largest Cloud Computing Infrastructure. We encounter interesting, challenging & complex problems every day, being a technical manager in Amazon means that you can innovate to solve these issues and help drive Operations Excellence in all areas of your role.

You will be a proven manager with experience managing teams of high performers. You will have the ability to refine and develop processes to optimize operational excellence in every area of your role. You will be able to drive performance levels to achieve the pace we build and operate our Data Centers at. You will have previous experience in Data Centers, either building or managing (or both) along with exposure to developing great relationships with both internal teams and external vendors.

This role will be physically based at our new MDD Pecos, TX site.

Key job responsibilities

  • Creating and maintaining metrics on all aspects of our Data Centers and utilizing those metrics to drive positive changes
  • Assisting in implementing service methodologies including incident management, problem management, change management, capacity management, etc.

Basic Qualifications
  • 4+ years of Information Technology (IT) experience, or Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics or equivalent
  • 1+ years of operations and on-call support for data center facilities, mission critical plants, or production facilities experience
  • 1+ years of networking (such as DNS, DHCP, SSL, OSI Model, and TCP/IP) experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2+ years of data center experience
  • Experience communicating results to senior leadership, or experience in building financial and operational reports/data sets that inform business decision‑making
  • Experience conducting interviews and making effective hiring decisions
  • project management certification such as PMP, Scrum, or other Agile certification
  • Knowledge of AWS services, such as Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), Elastic Block Storage (EBS), and Simple Storage Service (S3)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign‑on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location. Amazon also offers comprehensive benefits including health insurance (medical, dental, vision, prescription, Basic Life & AD&D insurance and option for Supplemental life plans, EAP, Mental Health Support, Medical Advice Line, Flexible Spending Accounts, Adoption and Surrogacy Reimbursement coverage), 401(k) matching, paid time off, and parental leave.
