Job summary

Addison Group in Chantilly, VA is seeking a Data Center Lead Building Engineer to supervise the maintenance team and manage projects for a high-availability facility. You will estimate materials, coordinate with vendors, and ensure operations meet safety and regulatory standards.

Responsibilities include leading the engineering team when the chief is away, writing procedures, and training new engineers while maintaining equipment like chillers, CRAH, UPS, and generators.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in electrical and mechanical experience in a high availability data center (10MW preferred).
• Experience with chillers (air or water cooled).
• Experience with CRAH units, UPS and generators.
• Knowledge of electrical controls operation and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct maintenance staff in daily tasks.
• Estimate time and materials for repairs and projects.
• Oversee work by outside contractors.
• Create project plans and simple internal budgets.
• Write procedures for preventive maintenance of critical equipment.
• Coordinate quotes and work with vendors; implement approved tasks.
• Perform preventive maintenance on refrigeration, HVAC, electrical, and backup systems.
• Read complex building drawings and schematics; ensure code compliance.
• Manage stock and ordering; oversee maintenance work orders.
• Train new building engineers and maintain operations standards.

Role: Data Center Lead Building Engineer

Location: Chantilly, VA

Pay Rate Range: $52-$58/hour

Job Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct maintenance staff in completing daily tasks.
• Estimates time and materials needed to complete repairs and new projects.
• Oversees and inspects the work performed by outside contractors.
• Responsible for creating projects plans and simple budgets for internal projects for presentation to management.
• Able to write method of procedures governing preventative maintenance of critical equipment.
• Work with contractors and vendors in order to get quotes for work and implement work once approved.
• Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment including, but not limited to
• Refrigeration
• HVAC
• Electrical
• Emergency backup systems
• Other utility building systems
• Monitors operation of
• adjusts and maintains refrigeration
• chilled water
• air conditioning equipment
• pumps
• valves
• piping
• filters. Does the same on all other mechanical and electrical equipment.
• Ability to analyze the operation of various systems, determining the root cause of all problems and malfunctions and to take corrective action as required.
• Able to read complex building drawings and schematics.
• Complies with all applicable codes, regulations, governmental agency, and company directives related to building operations and work safety.
• Responsible for checking stock of supplies and materials and placing orders with vendors as required.
• Responsible for managing maintenance work order software, including uploading new work orders as required.
• Will manage the building engineering team when the Chief is not present.
• Able to write operations procedures and standards.
• Responsible for training of new building engineers
• Decisions made with understanding of procedures and company policies to achieve set results and deadlines.

Requirements

• 5 years of electrical and mechanical experience in a High Availability Data Center (Prefer: Hyperscale/Large Scale Buildings)(Seeking a minimum of 10MW)
• Chillers experience (Air or water cooled, evaporative cooling is unapplicable)
• Experience with Computer Room Air Handler (CRAH units)
• Experience with uninterruptible power supplies (UPS)
• Experience with Generators
• Experience with Electrical controls operation.
• General HVAC knowledge (Understand refrigerant cycles/ basic HVAC troubleshooting)
• Experience with formulation, implementation, and adherence to safety policies and procedures related to the daily operations of the facilities. Participation in safety, knowledge and skills training.
