Job summary

Google is hiring a Data Center Facilities Technician focused on Fire Life Safety to monitor, inspect, and repair critical infrastructure in its data centers. You will ensure electrical, mechanical, and HVAC systems operate reliably, while coordinating with contractors and teams to maintain safety standards.

The role requires hands-on maintenance experience, the ability to work non-standard hours, and strong collaboration with cross-functional teams to reduce costs and improve data center

Qualifications

  • Associate degree or certified training in a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in electrical, mechanical/HVAC, or controls/automation in industrial/commercial environments.
  • Experience with electrical safety, mechanical and electrical infrastructure maintenance, and safety health protections.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and use PPE including PPE like safety harnesses.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and rotating shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, and repair data center systems such as piping and non‑critical electrical or mechanical components.
  • Provide daily assistance to technicians, reading blueprints and tours of systems.
  • Manage uptime and maintenance of water pumps, HVAC, UPS, generators, distribution, and monitoring systems.
  • Operate, monitor, maintain, and respond to abnormal conditions in facilities systems.
  • Support startup, commissioning, and integration of new equipment and systems into facilities infrastructure.

Data Center Facilities Technician, Fire Life Safety

Minimum qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree, trade school certification, or other certified training in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 5 years of experience in electrical, mechanical/HVAC, or controls/automation in an industrial or commercial environment.
  • Experience with electrical safety, mechanical and electrical infrastructure maintenance, and safety and health protection.
  • Ability to participate in material handling tasks such as lifting, carrying, or moving up to 50 lbs of equipment and the required use of OSHA standard safety equipment such as limited weight bearing work platforms, ladders, step stools, and personal protective equipment (PPE) like safety harnesses.
  • Ability to work non-standard hours and differing work rotations/shifts.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 5 years of experience in controls/automation, or construction/technical environment or a related field.
  • Experience in data centers, hospitals, or power plants.
  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems used in a data center environment (e.g., feed‑overs, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS/STS units, PDU/PMM units, chillers, air‑handling units, and CRAC units).
  • Knowledge of meters, devices, sensors, and troubleshooting utilizing standard hand tools, digital metering, or calibration/diagnostic equipment.
  • Ability to communicate with contractors who perform maintenance or upgrade work on the data center systems.

The Data Center team designs and operates some of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and HVAC systems in the world. Facilities Technicians at Google data centers operate, monitor and support physical facilities conditions.

Some of these duties will include heating and cooling of air and water, power supply, generators, UPS systems, electrical distribution and control and monitoring systems. You regularly help inspect, maintain and repair various data center systems such as piping and non‑critical electrical or mechanical components.

As an advocate for best practices, you develop creative approaches to reducing operational costs while improving overall data center efficiency. You ensure that environmental and safety standards are consistently met, identifying problems and making repairs quickly. In emergency situations or abnormal conditions, you manage data center performance issues and outages to minimize the recovery time from failures.

As a Facilities Technician, you will operate, monitor, and support physical facilities conditions for our data centers.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job‑related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $105,000 – $146,000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits
