Amazon Data Services, Inc. in Frederick, MD is seeking a Data Center Facility Manager to lead hands-on electrical and mechanical systems, ensuring reliability and performance of mission-critical data center infrastructure.

You will oversee 24x7 engineering technicians, manage safety, budgets, and vendor coordination, and drive improvements across UPS, generators, chillers, CRACs, and cooling systems while delivering efficient operations.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years in a management position with 5+ direct reports
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or mission-critical environment with knowledge of UPS, Generators, HVAC, and other core infrastructure OR 7+ years of technical training/experience

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical infrastructure and ensure work is done to high quality without impacting customers
  • Lead safety, security, availability, quality and performance of the team across multiple shift schedules
  • Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians and Facility Managers
  • Drive improvement projects from conception to completion across various support teams
  • Ensure staffing levels grow with expansions and actively participate in construction activities
  • Coordinate daily with third-party vendors to meet SLAs and budgets

In this pivotal role, you'll be the guardian of our data center operations, driving reliability and performance while optimizing operational efficiency across complex technical environments.

Data Center Facility Manger role acts as Amazon's front line when it comes to hands-on electrical and mechanical equipment troubleshooting. They will maintain, operate, and troubleshoot mission-critical data center facility equipment including electrical support equipment such as stand-by diesel generators and related fuel systems, 3 phase electrical systems that include but not limited to switchgear, UPS units, PDUs, and wet cell batteries and associated systems. Mechanical equipment includes CRAC units, centrifugal chillers, cooling towers/water chemical systems, air handlers and associated systems, pumps, and motors. Additional support equipment is included in the scope of the role which includes fire suppression systems, building automation systems, and general facilities equipment.

Key job responsibilities
  • Oversee all aspects of the data center's critical infrastructure. Ensure that all work performed within the space is done to high quality and without impact to internal/external customers
  • Oversee the safety, security, availability, quality, and performance of the team, while driving a positive customer experience across multiple shift schedules
  • Manage teams of 24x7 engineering technicians and Facility Managers in all facets of their career
  • Engage in improvement projects, often requiring reaching out to a variety of support teams, and drive them from conception to completion
  • Ensure staffing levels are maintained and grow with expansions
  • Be actively involved in ongoing construction activities
  • Coordinate daily with a multitude of third party vendors ensuring adherence to contracted SLAs
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the operations budget and expenditures
Basic Qualifications
  • High school or equivalent
  • 4+ years of work in a management position with 5 or more direct reports experience
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience in a data center or other mission critical environment with knowledge in UPS, Generators, HVAC, Evaporators and other critical infrastructure OR 7+ years of Technical (Military/Trade School) training and/or experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • 5+ years of work in a management position with 5 or more direct reports experience
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or Master's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Knowledge of the electrical and mechanical systems involved in critical data center operations including systems such as feeders, transformers, generators, switchgear, UPS systems, ATS units, PDU units, chillers, pumps, air handling units, and CRAC units
  • Experience in written and verbal communication with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders
  • 7+ years of experience working in a data center or other mission critical environment with an emphasis on building and equipment operation

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
