Job summary

Google is seeking a Controls or Systems Engineer to lead on-site automation for data center projects. You will ensure integration of mechanical, electrical, and cooling systems, serve as the primary on-site technical authority for BMS/EPMS/ICS, and coordinate with contractors to align hardware with logical design intent for seamless system operation.

The role requires mastery of BMS, EPMS, and PLC systems, strong communication, and ability to travel up to 50% across project locations in the US.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field.
• 5 years of experience as a program manager or technical program manager.
• 5 years of experience in controls engineering, automation, or systems integration in industrial or mission-critical environments.
• 5 years of experience in BMS/EPMS architectures (including DDC, PLC, virtual machines, and SCADA) and with BACnet, Modbus, SNMP.

Responsibilities

• Provide design development oversight and ensure owner’s requirements are met; act as definitive resource for integrators and contractors.
• Perform periodic site walk-throughs to verify correct installation and readings.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies between design intent and field conditions to prevent delays.
• Ensure all installations meet local electrical codes, cybersecurity hardening standards, Google standards, and project-specific automation requirements.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams for resolution of sequence issues and changes to SOO during construction.

Minimum qualifications

• Ability to translate complex automation logic into clear instructions for field technicians and electrical contractors.
• Ability to focus on "point-to-point" accuracy to ensure 100% data integrity for the facility’s monitoring systems.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to navigate a complex matrix organization.

Google is looking for a Controls or Systems Engineer with a mastery of Building Management Systems (BMS), Electrical Power Monitoring System (EPMS) and Industrial Control Systems (ICS) to execute and deliver the supply of third-party data center projects.

As the primary on-site technical authority for automation, you will ensure that the "brains" of the facility the integration of mechanical, electrical, and cooling systems are installed and networked to perfection. You will serve as the Lead Technical Point of Contact (POC) for all BMS, EPMS, and PLC-related engineering questions during the construction phase, ensuring that the physical installation of sensors, controllers, and network architecture aligns with the logical design intent, enabling seamless system communication and operational visibility. • Perform periodic site walk-throughs to verify the physical installation, ensuring correct placement for accurate readings.
• Identify and resolve discrepancies between design intent and field conditions to prevent commissioning delays, ensuring hardware matches programmed logic.
• Ensure all installations meet local electrical codes, cybersecurity hardening standards, Google standards, and project-specific automation requirements.
• Collaborate with Cross-Functional Teams for resolution of sequence issues, controls intent and changes to the SOO during the construction process.
