Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Commissioning Project Lead to own the commissioning strategy and execution for a large-scale, self-build data center project. You will lead the program from planning through turnover, establishing the execution plan and coordinating multidisciplinary readiness with commissioning partners.

This role initially supports planning in a hybrid capacity and transitions to full-time onsite as construction, startup, testing, and turnover intensify.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated ability to lead complex commissioning programs across construction and startup phases.
• Experience coordinating electrical, mechanical, and controls systems.
• Strong communication of readiness, risk, and recovery plans to executives.
• Owner-side commissioning experience preferred and hybrid owner/vendor models.

Responsibilities

• Own the commissioning strategy and execution plan, defining scope and acceptance criteria.
• Lead hybrid OpenAI and commissioning-partner delivery with clear RACI and staffing.
• Integrate commissioning into master project schedule and readiness milestones.
• Coordinate across construction management, contractors, vendors, and operations.
• Drive readiness across electrical, mechanical, and controls systems; resolve blockers.
• Identify risks early and translate issues into actionable schedule decisions.
• Manage QA/QC inspections, test procedures, and turnover packages.
• Provide executive reporting on readiness, staffing, progress, and risks.
• Drive final system acceptance, turnover readiness, and lessons learned.
