Job summary

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Senior Manager to lead a large data center infrastructure operations organization in the Mansfield, TX area. You will guide department heads responsible for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, while driving strategic initiatives and operational excellence.

The role demands deep understanding of data center IT and facilities infra, with a focus on safety, availability, and cost efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Experience delivering design solutions for large scope projects.
  • Experience managing large teams across multiple locations and languages.
  • Strong written and verbal communication with senior leadership.
  • 5+ years of analytical, quantitative, and presentations experience.
  • 10+ years in a data center or critical environment.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, manage, and develop the operations management team including facilities managers and engineering operations technicians.
  • Achieve performance goals relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency for data center operations.
  • Plan and execute infrastructure components for new builds and expansions including mechanical/electrical/plumbing infrastructure.
  • Oversee maintenance of MEP and controls systems, preventive and corrective maintenance, and change management.
  • Manage vendors for data center services to meet or exceed SLAs.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance systems and schedules; evaluate performance of infrastructure support.
  • Balance insourcing/outsourcing maintenance tasks with internal capabilities and frugality.
  • Lead incident response for safety, security, and availability; ensure resolution.
  • Drive continuous improvement of processes, procedures, methods, and tools.

The Senior Manager is one of our most senior management roles in the data center environment. In this role, you will be responsible for leading a large organization, managing department heads who own data center facility infrastructure including the operational availability of mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Key job responsibilities
  • Hiring, managing, and developing the operations management team including facilities managers, chief engineering managers and engineering operations technicians.
  • Attainment of organizational performance goals and objectives relating to safety, security, availability, scaling, and efficiency in support of our data center operations.
  • Planning and executing the Infrastructure Operations component of new AWS data center build-outs, new colocation build-outs, AWS data center expansions, and colocation expansions, including the entire mechanical/electrical/plumbing infrastructure to facilitate the daily operation.
  • Operation and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, and controls systems for Amazon data centers to include preventive maintenance, corrective maintenance, and change management.
  • Vendor management of colocation data center services providers, if required, to meet or exceed contracted performance SLA’s.
  • Oversight of a preventative maintenance system and the adherence to schedules, evaluation and performance of our infrastructure supporting the data center operations.
  • Experience in successful insourcing and/or outsourcing specific maintenance task balancing internal skillsets with frugality.
  • Safety, security, and availability incident response, incident management, and incident resolution.
  • Continuous improvement of operational processes, procedures, methods, and tools.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or above in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Experience in delivering design solutions for projects of large scope and complexity
  • Experience managing large teams across multiple locations and languages, or experience as an acting operations manager
  • Experience in written and verbal communication skills to communicate with technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership
  • 5+ years of analytical, quantitative, communication, and presentations experience
  • 10+ years of relevant work in a data center or other critical environment experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with continuous improvement methods such as Kaizen, Lean, DMAIC, etc.
  • Knowledge of mechanical systems (Mechanical, HVAC systems, Controls)
  • Experience in one or more IT infrastructure domains (storage, compute, networking, security, software development, systems administration, database engineering or administration, machine learning, cloud infrastructure, big data, DevOps, or other IT infrastructure domain)

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
