Job description

An advanced technology organisation operating at exceptional compute density is continuing to invest heavily in the physical environments that enable its infrastructure strategy. These facilities are purpose built to support high density GPU clusters, complex simulation platforms and latency critical systems at significant scale.

This role sits at the architectural centre of that estate, defining how power, cooling and environmental systems are designed across white space deployments while ensuring seamless alignment with upstream plant capacity and operational standards.

It is a senior design authority position suited to engineers who have shaped mission critical data centre environments end to end, from early concept and detailed design through commissioning and operational readiness, rather than remaining confined to a single engineering discipline.

Key responsibilities:
  • Define reference architectures for rack layouts, containment strategies, structured cabling and distribution topologies across high density halls
  • Translate workload demand, including GPU and HPC clusters, into coherent electrical and mechanical capacity models
  • Balance resilience patterns such as N+1 and 2N with efficiency targets including PUE optimisation and sustainability objectives
  • Act as the connective layer between MEP design, operations and digital integration teams to ensure architectural intent is preserved
  • Establish standards for white space fit out and ensure seamless integration with network fabric and controls systems
  • Contribute physical parameters including power draw, airflow and thermal behaviour into digital twin and simulation models
  • Support the full lifecycle across design review, construction oversight, commissioning and operational handover
  • Evolve architectural frameworks to support rapid expansion and increasing density requirements
What you’ll need:
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Architectural Engineering
  • Strong understanding of power distribution systems, cooling plant design, redundancy modelling and efficiency optimisation
  • Familiarity with relevant standards including ASHRAE, NFPA and NEC
  • Exposure to hyperscale, AI, ML or HPC environments where rack density and thermal management are critical constraints
  • Confidence operating as a cross functional design authority influencing engineering, construction and operations stakeholders
  • Ability to communicate complex architectural trade offs clearly to both technical and leadership audiences

You will influence how future halls are designed, scaled and operated across a growing global estate. The environment is technically demanding, performance driven and strategically critical to the organisation’s research capability.
