Job summary

Nasdaq, Inc. in Philadelphia seeks a backend software engineer to design, develop, and maintain Java and Scala services powering regulatory reporting workflows and data pipelines.

You will translate complex requirements into reliable, scalable solutions and support large-scale ETL processes ingesting and transforming market data. Collaborate with cross-functional teams, troubleshoot production issues, and apply cloud and big data technologies (AWS, Spark, Hadoop) to deliver high-quality software

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• 2+ years of software development experience with strong programming skills in Scala or Java.
• Experience developing backend services, data-intensive applications, or ETL/data processing solutions.
• Experience working in SQL and Linux/Unix environments, including scripting and troubleshooting.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguous requirements and collaborate effectively with technical stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain Java and Scala-based backend applications that support large-scale regulatory reporting workflows.
• Analyze technical and business requirements and translate them into reliable, scalable software solutions.
• Build, enhance, and support data processing and ETL workflows that ingest, transform, and deliver large volumes of trading and market data.
• Troubleshoot production issues, identify root causes, and implement durable, long-term fixes across distributed data platforms.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality solutions using cloud and big data technologies.
