Job summary

Corning Incorporated in Painted Post, NY invites rising data science students to a 10-week summer internship focused on data analytics and machine learning to support manufacturing projects.

You'll analyze large data sets, build dashboards, and develop predictive tools; must be pursuing a DS degree, available Summer 2027 with graduation December 2027 or later, and willing to work at the posted location.

  • Must be available for 10 weeks during Summer 2027 with a graduation date of December 2027 or later

Responsibilities

  • Analyze large data sets and apply machine learning techniques for supervised and unsupervised learning.
  • Create dashboards to support engineers and management.
  • Explain model methods and predictions in terms of feature importance to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Develop predictive tools to inform both business and technical decisions.

Role Purpose

This candidate should have experience with management/manipulation of large data sets and familiarity with machine learning techniques for supervised and unsupervised learning. The analytical work will support a range of projects from technical problems in manufacturing. The work will have some focus on process data anomaly detection and dashboarding to assist engineers. It is expected that this person will, on occasion, create predictive tools that will enable both business and technical decisions. The work will involve devising graphical presentation methods to explain results to others. The candidate should have proficiency explaining model methods and predictions in terms of feature importance

Requirements

Experiences/Education - Desired
  • Familiar with open-source tools for data analytics such as Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch
  • Familiarity with neural networks, such as CNN, and decision trees
  • Familiarity with outlier identification methods such as Isolation Forests
  • Familiarity with SQL and PowerBI

The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly. Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
