You will collaborate with education partners, analysts, and engineers to define requirements, map data to reporting concepts, and develop technical specs for reporting and analytics.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in Statistics, Economics, Computer Science, Mathematics, Data Science, Information Systems, Public Policy, Education, or a related field.
• At least 1 year of relevant professional experience with data, analytics, or data products.
• Familiarity with K–12 education data or education data standards is helpful but not required.

Education Analytics (EA) is hiring a Data Analyst II with a business analyst focus for an onsite role in Madison, WI. In this position, you will connect partner and user needs to data, analytics, and technical solutions, helping turn questions into clear data definitions and analytic requirements. Salary: USD 72,000 - 84,000 per year. Experience: at least 1 year. Education: minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant experience.

What you’ll do

• Partner closely with education partners, analysts, engineers, and other technical teams throughout the analytic process.
• Conduct partner discovery when project needs require it.
• Define and document analytic requirements and translate questions into data definitions.
• Map source data to reporting concepts and investigate data quality.
• Develop technical specifications and help plan how data should be combined, transformed, and interpreted for reporting and analytics.
• Mock up reports or dashboards to align stakeholders on what delivery should look like.
• Support projects from initial problem definition through delivery.

What you bring

• Experience turning broad or ambiguous requests into clear questions, data definitions, analytic requirements, and technical specifications, with the ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience working with complex data sources, evaluating data quality, and determining mapping, combining, transformation, and interpretation needs.
• Working proficiency in SQL, including writing, interpreting, and debugging complex queries in a cloud data warehouse environment such as Snowflake.
• Familiarity with education data standards such as Ed-Fi, or the ability to learn and apply complex education data standards, definitions, and reporting rules.
• Experience with BI, reporting, or data visualization tools, including the mockup phase. Apache Superset and Figma experience is preferred.
• Experience using a statistical programming language such as R or Python to investigate, process, or validate data.
• Experience using Git and GitHub for version control and collaborative development.
• Comfort in an evolving technical environment, including adopting new tools such as AI-assisted technologies to improve the efficiency and quality of analytical work.
• Strong organization and time management skills to prioritize multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced setting with limited direction.
