Job summary

Goldbelt Professional Services is seeking a Data Analyst II to support CDC NCBDDD surveillance data management, analysis, and reporting. The role collaborates with epidemiologists, IT staff, and state health departments to ensure data quality and timeliness for public health decision-making.

Responsibilities include data cleaning, statistical analyses (regression, trends), and producing data products in SAS, CSV, or XML. Strong communication and cross-team collaboration are required.

Qualifications

  • Master's degree or PhD in Public Health, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Data Science, or related.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with birth defects surveillance, maternal/child health, developmental disabilities, or chronic disease surveillance.
  • Familiarity with CDC data standards and IRB processes.

Responsibilities

  • Sort, clean, validate, and analyze birth defects data from surveillance systems.
  • Conduct routine and ad hoc analyses including prevalence ratios, trends, and regression across jurisdictions.

  • Generate weekly reports, tables, datasets, and data products for CDC staff and stakeholders.

Summary

The Data Analyst II supports the mission of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Center on Birth Defects and Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD), by providing data management, statistical analysis, surveillance support, and reporting for multi-state birth defects surveillance activities. The position works closely with epidemiologists, surveillance program staff, information technology specialists, and state health departments to ensure the quality, integrity, timeliness, and accuracy of public health data used to inform research, prevention strategies, and public health decision-making.

Responsibilities
Essential Job Functions
  • Provide data management, statistical analysis, surveillance support, and reporting to support national surveillance of birth defects and other infant disorders.
  • Sort, clean, validate, and analyze birth defects/infant disorder data collected from surveillance systems.
  • Conduct routine and ad hoc statistical analyses of surveillance data, including prevalence ratio calculations, trend analyses, regression modeling, and other epidemiologic analyses across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Use advanced statistical programming languages and software, including SAS, R, SQL, and related analytical tools, to manage and analyze large, complex public health datasets.
  • Generate weekly reports, tables, datasets, and data products in multiple formats (e.g., SAS, CSV, XML) for CDC program staff and stakeholders.
  • Establish and maintain database variable structures and data management systems to support multi-state surveillance data submissions to CDC.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor data quality assurance and quality control protocols to identify, investigate, and resolve data quality issues.
  • Review surveillance data submissions from surveillance programs and provide technical recommendations to improve data completeness, consistency, and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with Information Technology (IT) staff to establish, document, and maintain data reporting mechanisms and automated data workflows.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation supporting Human Subjects protections, Institutional Review Board (IRB) requirements, Assurances of Confidentiality (AoC), and other regulatory compliance activities.
  • Develop and maintain surveillance database documentation, including data dictionaries, file specifications, metadata standards, and data cleaning procedures.
  • Identify opportunities for program and process improvements that enhance the timeliness, quality, and accuracy of surveillance data and analytic outputs.
  • Prepare written reports, oral presentations, technical documentation, analytic summaries, and recommendations for CDC leadership, program staff, and external partners.
  • Collaborate with epidemiologists, researchers, and public health professionals to support surveillance activities, scientific publications, presentations, and program evaluation efforts.

Pay And Benefits

The salary range for this position is $85,000-$105,000 annually.
