Job summary

The U.S. Pharmacopeial Convention (USP) in Rockville, MD, is seeking a Data Analyst to turn complex data from our Medicine Supply Map into actionable insights that drive decision-making and operational improvements.

You will develop dashboards and reports using Python, R, SQL, Tableau, SAS, and BI tools, collaborate with stakeholders, and stay current on analytics in healthcare and public health standards.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Public Health, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in data cleaning, transformation, and analysis with Python (Pandas), R, SQL, Tableau, SAS or similar tools.
  • Strong statistical foundation: hypothesis testing, trend analysis, descriptive and diagnostic statistics.
  • Experience building dashboards or visualizations to communicate data insights clearly.
  • Strong communication skills to present complex findings to non-technical audiences.

We are seeking a passionate and talented Data Analyst to join our dynamic team. You will turn complex data from our Medicine Supply Map into actionable insights that drive decision-making, operational improvements, and ensure the availability of quality medicines.

The Data Analyst has the following responsibilities:

Gather, clean, preprocess, and maintain datasets from the Medicine Supply Map and related sources.

  • Conduct statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to uncover trends, patterns, and anomalies.

  • Design, plan, and execute data quality and testing activities: validate datasets, uncover data issues, check pipeline integrity, and implement consistency checks.

  • Participate in data-driven testing (e.g., scripted or parameterized tests) to ensure accuracy of metrics and model outputs.

  • Develop clear dashboards, visualizations, and reports using tools like Python (Pandas, Matplotlib), R, SQL, Tableau, SAS.

  • Monitor data pipelines, verify data flow correctness, and troubleshoot discrepancies.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define reporting needs and deliver actionable insights.

  • Perform root cause and diagnostic analytics to understand supply disruptions or demand shifts.

  • Share insights through presentations, written reports, and visual storytelling.

  • Document testing procedures, data validation steps, and analytical methodology.

  • Stay current on emerging analytics, testing tools, and best practices in healthcare/pharmaceutical data.

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Public Health, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field.

  • Proficiency in data cleaning, transformation, and analysis using Python (Pandas), R, SQL, Tableau, SAS, or similar tools.

  • Strong statistical foundation: hypothesis testing, trend analysis, descriptive and diagnostic statistics.

  • Experience building dashboards or visualizations to communicate data insights clearly.

  • Excellent analytical thinking and attention to detail; ability to translate business questions into data queries.

  • Strong communication skills—able to present complex findings to non-technical audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage multiple data requests.

  • Eagerness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced, healthcare or pharmaceutical-oriented environment.

  • Experience working in healthcare, pharmaceutical supply chains, or life sciences domains.

  • Familiarity with business intelligence tools such as IBM Cognos or Power BI.

  • Experience with ETL/pipeline frameworks (e.g. Kedro, Airflow) for reproducible workflows.

  • Previous project experience using Python/R/SQL in predictive modeling, dashboarding, data mining, or statistical analysis.

  • Prior roles involving data storytelling or decision support in healthcare settings

  • 10 years of technical professional working experience.

Additional Desired Preferences
  • PhD or similar level of research experience.

Compensation:

Base Salary Range: USD $83,368– $118,800 annually.

Target Annual Bonus: 10%

Individual compensation packages are based on various factors unique to each candidate’s skill set, experience, qualifications, equity, and other job-related reasons.
