Job summary

The University of North Carolina System is seeking a Data Analyst II to join the System Office Data Analytics team in Raleigh. You will support statewide Advise NC and education financial aid data through reports, dashboards, and data visualizations.

You will handle ad-hoc requests, maintain projection models for scholarship decisions, and collaborate with leadership and external stakeholders while upholding accuracy and confidentiality.

Qualifications

• Master’s or bachelor’s degree plus 4+ years of data analytics experience.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience with relational databases, data retrieval and statistical packages, and data visualization software.
• SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and Tableau required.

Job description

Data Analyst II supports the UNC System Office Data Analytics team with statewide research and reporting focused on Advise NC and education financial aid data.

Responsibilities

• Support Advise NC data analysis and research by preparing reports, tracking key success metrics, creating supporting materials, and addressing ad-hoc data requests.
• Fulfill research requests from the Executive Director and other Authority leaders related to higher education financial aid programs and nonpublic K-12 scholarships and grants.
• Maintain projection models to inform scholarship and grant award decisions.
• Convert complex data and analysis into clear, audience-appropriate deliverables, including analytical reports, data visualizations, concise summaries, and talking points, often with tight deadlines.
• Develop reports, dashboards, and written materials for internal leadership, the Board of Directors, and external stakeholders.
• Assist data governance efforts through detailed documentation, data quality control initiatives, and support for implementing a comprehensive data warehouse.
• Collect, clean, and analyze data from multiple sources to produce dashboards and reports used for strategy, policy, and institutional decision-making.

Requirements

• Master’s or bachelor’s degree plus 4+ years of data analytics experience; UNC System will accept a combination of related education and experience in substitution.
• Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.
• Experience working with relational databases, data retrieval and statistical packages, and data visualization software.
• SAS (Statistical Analysis System) and Tableau required.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate with varied audiences, including technical and non-technical experts.
• Strong customer-service orientation, attention to detail, and commitment to accuracy and confidentiality.

Opportunity Details

• Member of the Data Analytics team, reporting to the Deputy Director for Data Analysis and Research.
• Primary focus on the statewide Advise NC program, which helps students prepare, apply, and pay for postsecondary pathways.
• Work involves gathering, interpreting, and analyzing institutional and program data with a broad understanding of North Carolina education programs.
• Hybrid work arrangement may be available in accordance with System Office policy.
• UNC System employees generally required to reside in North Carolina within a 2-hour commuting distance of the assigned duty station.

• North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority (NCSEAA) is an agency authorized to plan, finance, and administer student financial assistance programs statewide or inter-institutional in nature.
